Publisher's summary

From number one New York Times best-selling author Brandon Sanderson, Words of Radiance, audiobook two of the Stormlight Archive, continues the immersive fantasy epic that The Way of Kings began.

Expected by his enemies to die the miserable death of a military slave, Kaladin survived to be given command of the royal bodyguards, a controversial first for a low-status "darkeyes". Now he must protect the king and Dalinar from every common peril as well as the distinctly uncommon threat of the Assassin, all while secretly struggling to master remarkable new powers that are somehow linked to his honorspren, Syl.

The Assassin, Szeth, is active again, murdering rulers all over the world of Roshar, using his baffling powers to thwart every bodyguard and elude all pursuers. Among his prime targets is Highprince Dalinar, widely considered the power behind the Alethi throne. His leading role in the war would seem reason enough, but the Assassin’s master has much deeper motives.

Brilliant but troubled Shallan strives along a parallel path. Despite being broken in ways she refuses to acknowledge, she bears a terrible burden: to somehow prevent the return of the legendary Voidbringers and the civilization-ending Desolation that will follow. The secrets she needs can be found at the Shattered Plains, but just arriving there proves more difficult than she could have imagined.

Meanwhile, at the heart of the Shattered Plains, the Parshendi are making an epochal decision. Hard pressed by years of Alethi attacks, their numbers ever shrinking, they are convinced by their war leader, Eshonai, to risk everything on a desperate gamble with the very supernatural forces they once fled. The possible consequences for Parshendi and humans alike, indeed, for Roshar itself, are as dangerous as they are incalculable.

Great book, great read through

they really capture the essence of this book. I've read it twice before i decided to listen instead, and it was a pleasant departure from the norm.

Author runs two voice actors one is awesome

Author runs two voice actors one is awesome - the male. The other sounds like a female version of Mr Rodgers. Terrible. Painful to listen to. Author tells five different stories. One is phenomenal. The he ruins it with the female natator talking about a female character and love of art, poetry, ect. He spends half the book on this stupid female character talking about this kind of crap. I finally started skipping ahead every time the female voice actor started talking again. So in summery, half of this book is outstanding. Lots of action. The other half is worse than watching paint dry!

Captivating

Brandon Sanderson amazes yet again. Captivating from start to finish. Michael Kramer is also very good at doing different voices. For both readers I prefer 1.25x speed.

I listened to the last NINE hours in a day

It was so good I listened to the last 9 hours in a single day. I tried to do chores around the house while I listened but I kept finding myself sitting down and just listening. The characters are amazing and the way they are performed is perfect. The part where Chalan's dark past is finally revealed is so heart wrenching, it brought tears to my eye and it was read perfectly.

Character Development

I love that this has two narrators for various characters, and the character development is amazing. There is immense depth in the story and refreshing changes in direction from what would have been expected.

Even better than Way of Kings

The Stormlight Archive series is quickly becoming my favorite story of all time. Words of radiance continues to build on the Way of Kings. You begin to see how all the dots are connected and the build up to the climax of Words of Radiance is incredible! I highly recommend this book and this series. I can't wait to continue with the other books!

What the *$@! Kate?

Why did Kate Reading suddenly start using a (terrible) french accent for the Thaylens?
