Publisher's summary

The Wheel of Time is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

In Winter's Heart, the ninth novel in Robert Jordan’s #1 New York Times bestselling epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time®, Rand al'Thor and his friends face personal trials in their quests to build alliances against the Dark One.

After locating Masema Dagar, the Prophet of the Dragon, on Rand’s behalf, Perrin Aybara returns to his encampment to discover his wife Faile has been abducted by the Shaido Aiel. Determined to reclaim her, Perrin forgoes his mission, risking his army in pursuit of a dangerous and unpredictable enemy.

Wounded and trapped in the Seanchan-occupied city of Ebou Dar, Mat Cauthon is awaiting an opportunity to leave. But he is not the only one in hiding. Three Aes Sedai are desperate to escape. As Mat seeks a way to smuggle them all out of the city, he encounters his own prophesized fate when he meets the Daughter of the Nine Moons.

Rand himself is on a mission of vengeance. He has tracked the traitorous Asha’man who tried to kill him to Far Madding. It is a city where no one is capable of channeling the One Power, leaving Rand vulnerable to those who would stop at nothing to destroy the Dragon Reborn…

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® by Robert Jordan has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters. The last six books in series were all instant #1 New York Times bestsellers, and The Eye of the World was named one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

Beginning slow, picks up later.

It finally felt like return to form. just the beginning will be boring. I feel like Perrin is not as interesting as the rest of the main cast and it really shows here. now the rest is good stuff, but I hear the next book back petals.

Arguably one of the best in the series

This is at least my seventh time reading/listening to this, and it’s climax is so wonderful. Book 4 is hands down the best, but this one has an argument for the second best.

Can't Stop Listening!

As Robert Jordan brings us along for the journey with the original cast of characters (who are still alive), he continues to world build and introduce new players for us to love, hate or suspend our judgment on. These are well defined characters who we have no choice but to categorize because they are almost tangible. As this world grows in volume and detail I thoroughly enjoy being much more than just a distant observer.

As my wife listens with me at times, she periodically teases me about the constant reminders of what certain characters are wearing and why, hinting that it borders on pedantic. While I have often been annoyed by this depth of detail in other authors, I soak up these details as Jordan's world takes up more space in my head! I've never really cared about all the details of a particular woman's dress before, but Jordan makes me want those details to better build that picture and allow me to become lost in his world for a time. It's akin to adding tens of thousands of pixels to the picture with every detailed description.

This has been one of my favorite diversions in decades, rivaling only Terry Pratchett's Disc World and the universe of worlds Brandon Sanderson is currently still creating for us to enjoy! while I will miss Robert Jordan in the later books which were only completed thanks to his wife and Sanderson, I must admit to being deeply curious about where they will lead us.

Lastly, I have to say how important Michael Kramer and Kate Reading are to this series, much as they are to Brandon Sanderson's books. For me, they are so much more than just the icing on the cake. They provide an audible "third dimension" that breathes life into every cubic foot of Jordan's world. My heartfelt thanks to both Kramer and Reading.

So many characters, hard to keep them all straight.

There are so many characters and threads to the story that even if the author gives them each a chapter or two then the book is still very long. You feel like not much is accomplished by the end.
