Publisher's summary

In Chicago, someone has been killing practitioners of magic, those incapable of becoming full-fledged wizards. Shockingly, all the evidence points to Harry Dresden's half brother, Thomas, as the murderer. Determined to clear his sibling's name, Harry uncovers a conspiracy within the White Council of Wizards that threatens not only him, but his nearest and dearest, too.

Critic reviews

“What’s not to like about this series?...It takes the best elements of urban fantasy, mixes it with some good old-fashioned noir mystery, tosses in a dash of romance and a lot of high-octane action, shakes, stirs, and serves.” (SF Site)

“A tricky plot complete with against-the-clock pacing, firefights, explosions, and plenty of magic. Longtime series fans as well as newcomers drawn by the SciFi Channel’s TV series based on the novels should find this supernatural mystery a real winner.” (Library Journal)

“What would you get if you crossed Spenser with Merlin? Probably you would come up with someone very like Harry Dresden, wizard, tough guy and star of [the Dresden Files].” (The Washington Times)

Harry Get’s On My Nerves….

I am a self-confident guy and those without try my patience. However, I freaking LOVE the stories and the other cast of characters!

3rd best so far

Obviously, if you are reading a review for the ninth book of this series you are most likely already hooked and are going to continue reading. In my opinion this is his 3rd best book so far (up to 9), first being #7 dead beat (gotta love butters) and second being #8 proven guilty (charity had a great character arc), but I for one need to take a break from series’ every now and then, so some other books I would recommend if you like the Dresden Files would be
-arcane ascension (sufficiently advanced magic)
- the king killer chronicles (name of the wind)
- and to be honest, not too similar to Dresden, but I love anything written by Brandon Sanderson (start with Mistborn the final empire)

Oh and just if you are wondering, this time he fights ghouls. #1 Warlocks, #2 werewolves, #3 ghosts, #4 fey, #5 demons, #6 vampires, #7 zombies, #8 nightmares, and #9 ghouls

One of the best in the series

Definitely one of my favorites, it's one of the best in the series and made me laugh constantly, had good emotional bits but I won't spoil those.

Action Packed

Harry takes on a variety of supernatural antagonists while reconnecting with his first love. The action never stops and Harry's long sexual abstinence becomes a positive. Great read by James Marsters.

A Forever Fan

I’m listening to the Dresden Files for the second time and am loving every second. I missed many details and much dialog the first time. And James Marsters is the best narrator doing Audible books today. I would listen to Marsters read the dictionary.
