Publisher's Summary

Lieutenant Commander Shawn "Calvin" Hobbs and his special forces platoon just returned from a three-month mission to the stars. The technology they brought back will help with the Earth's defense, but it won't be enough to hold off the alien menace headed their way. Although they made it back alive, they returned without any new allies or help in building the fleet necessary to ensure the Earth's survival. They've got to go back.

When the Gods Aren't Gods is the second book in The Theogony, a trilogy that has taken Lieutenant Commander Hobbs and his special forces platoon to the stars, where they have found out that there is much more to Earth's history than is written in the history books! What do you do when myths become reality, and nothing you have ever been taught about history turns out to be true? How do you find the truth when everything you know is a lie? What is there left to believe in, when even the gods aren't gods?

"An okay book for Sci-fi fix."

like the series. A little juvenile written and the few supernatural things thrown in really annoy me though. a worth while read when nothing else is available.

    "Just plain bad."

    1. This book is full of mistakes!! It is in real need of a re-write. Mistakes on par with black is white night is day.
As if the author took long pauses between writing and forgot what was what in the storyline when he started up again, not even caring to catch up on what the heck he had written prior.

    2. The audio volume shifts(LOUDLY) markedly whenever the "characters" converse using their suit communications or "implants".

    3. The narration is suboptimal, possibly worse at times then that of the first book.

    4. The story is at times silly and irrational and contrived for reasons that makes no sense other then to make up words.
Composing this review is giving me a headache, this due to my mind attempting to dredge up the many (1) this book suffers from and that it was forced to repress for so as to be able to finish listening to it.
I wish that my aversion to spoilers was less of an issue for me. I could then have supplied a multitude of examples of issue 1.

I am going to return this book for a refund credit and try the third book in this series. If that is equally bad it will be the last book by Chris Kennedy that I ever read/listen to.

PS. Heading for my medicin supplies now to attempt medicating myself to get rid of the migraine brought on by listening to this..

I am really enjoying the story but the narration is just a bit too mechanical. it takes away from the overall experience.

    "A fun read"

An enjoyable listen with just enough humor to keep it light and entertaining. Recommended for anyone with a taste for military si fi.

    "Uh....Do I have to?"
Would you listen to When the Gods Aren't Gods again? Why?

because the first book was really good, yes I would. however, had this been my introduction to this, not even if were given to me.

What was one of the most memorable moments of When the Gods Aren't Gods?

    The back story and history.

Have you listened to any of Craig Good’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

yes, I find him an interesting reader. He is not boring but dry.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    the arrival of the Drakul.

    Any additional comments?

this book was a bridge. I hope, to the next book.
