Publisher's summary

In this Hugo Award-winning classic, Enoch Wallace is an ageless hermit, striding across his untended farm as he has done for over a century, still carrying the gun with which he had served in the Civil War. But what his neighbors must never know is that, inside his unchanging house, he meets with a host of unimaginable friends from the farthest stars.

More than a hundred years before, an alien named Ulysses had recruited Enoch as the keeper of Earth's only galactic transfer station. Now, as Enoch studies the progress of Earth and tends the tanks where the aliens appear, the charts he made indicate his world is doomed to destruction. His alien friends can only offer help that seems worse than the dreaded disaster. Then he discovers the horror that lies across the galaxy.

BONUS AUDIO: Way Station includes an exclusive introduction by Hugo and Nebula Award-winning author Mike Resnick.

An excellent story and well presented

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

A great classic with a message still timely today.

What does Eric Michael Summerer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Summerer doesn't just read or narrate. He is able to give voice to each character.

Brings back old memories

Reminds me of the Cold War and it's politics. I thought the story had similar themes but was strong in character development. The ending was unexpected.

Highly recommended for all Sci-Fi fans!

Thought provoking, classic sci-fi

We really enjoyed this sci-fi classic. If you’re looking for a modern, fast-paced, monster alien book, this would not be it. But if you’re enjoying an introspective, more leisurely paced book, I can definitely recommend this. Perfect narrator for the piece. Just sit back and enjoy it.

This could have easily been adapted by Rod Serling back in the day. Good read.

A better human for reading this.

I wish I had read this when I was 13 and thoroughly engrossed in science fiction. Then I could have read it every year after. Its the kind of story that would have grown with me as I matured, and I'm sure I would have found new depths each time I picked it up. Enoch is the kind of character one could live with.

A must for any science fiction fan

I bought this many years ago as a book and read and reread it. This performance brings it to life. I've listened to it three times since the first download and expect I will again. Such a scope of ideas!

A very special novel that will inspire you.

One of the best SF novels I've ever read - full of the wonder and awe of a small child looking up at the star-filled sky at night and dreaming of beings on other worlds. This novel certainly takes its place as one of the most imaginative and powerful works in the genre. Simak's concept of an extraterrestrial "way station" being set up in an isolated Wisconsin farmhouse is both simple and profound. What goes on there will amaze and inspire you. Not full of action and suspense, but quietly inspiring and thought-provoking.
