Tries too hard to make a point

Great premise about an artificial intelligence that arises on the Internet. Unfortunately, the author tries way to hard to push personal agendas. The novel is very talky with a lot of tiresome soapboxing from an evolutionistic perspective.

Communism, Atheism, Totalitarianism Oh my!

It’s funny watching small minds play big games. The fact Mr. Sawyer can look up others ideas and fold them into what he thinks the world should be, does not make it so.

The story was wonderfully done, but I didn’t need or want to be preached at for a quarter of the book. Just like actresses that should shut up and act and musicians that should shut up and sing Mr. Sawyer should shut up and write.

Twilight with computers

Lame book with annoying narration. Predictable characters, boring story. Nothing ever happens other than two teenagers kissing.

Wow, anybody's seen a plot here?

After listening to this book, I wonder where is the plot? I enjoyed most of the discussions about conscience, evolution, IA, freedom, Big Brother, game theory and so on that take place in the book.
The problem is that it is the only good thing in here!! All the military stuff is really crap and unnecessary, and all that sweet sixteen stuff... Only Webmind saves the book!

I will probably purchase the third one too, but I really hope it improves!

Didn't like....

I bought this book because it seemed like an interesting Science Fiction book. However, in reality this book is a teenage girl drama. Yuck!

Really Poor

This book was one of the worst audio books I have ever listened to. The plot was very weak and the narration, especially that of Katlin was distracting. I do not recommend this book.

This is SciFi?

This book has a lot of problems. The characters are really flat, the narration, and finally it is more about an annoying 16 year old girl then the emergent intelligence.

Think about this as a look into a 16 year old girls life with all the OMGs you could ever want with bad science and wedged somewhere in there is an AI that is learning from... Yeah the 16 year old girl and her parents...

This book is just a collection of parts of other stories. It has nothing to recommend it and a waste of credits.

Middle

Would you try another book from Robert J. Sawyer and/or the narrators?

I get the impression that this middle book of the trilogy was actually written after the third had been finished. it's a grab bag of the author's political views tossed in with equal parts of scenes that are used simply to bridge the gap and create a trilogy after the main tale has been told. one example of this is a soul searching philosophical discussion between the teenaged main charaters--as she sits on his lap and after their tongues have stopped intertwining--that the president of the united states is the defacto leader of the free world and: the president is making a big deal of wearing an american flag on his lapel on the campaign trail this time because
