Publisher's summary

Mother, wife, private investigator... vampire. Six years ago, federal agent Samantha Moon was the perfect wife and mother, your typical soccer mom with the minivan and suburban home. Then the unthinkable happens, an attack that changes her life forever. And forever is a very long time for a vampire.

Now, in Vampire Moon, sequel to Moon Dance, private investigator Samantha Moon finds herself hunting down a powerful crime lord and protecting an innocent woman from her ruthless ex-husband—all while two very different men vie for her heart. And as the stakes grow higher and her cases turn personal, Samantha Moon will do whatever it takes to protect the innocent and bring two cold-blooded killers to justice—her own brand of justice.

Book 2

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this book. A lot of action including questionable morales. Great character development, storyline & plot. The mysterious Fang...I have a suspicion as to who it is.

Moon Revealed

In this second installment in the Samantha Moon Vampire for Hire series we see more of the PI and woman to add to the dimensions we've experienced of the mother and vampire.

At this point her code of honor is more visible and we are privy to her internal motivations which aren't always benign. She is growing into a full character and her conscience is evident.

This story has her fighting crime concurrent to solving a mystery. It's now evident that she knows more about her kind and other immortals. She shares candidly without the fear of judgement as she considers the outcomes worthy of the questionable actions that precede them.

Dina Pearlman gives a good vocal performance and achieves identifiable diversity with new characters while cementing those from the first Moon tale.

The story, acting and total package are worthy of four stars and a future purchase of the next installment.

good book about real-life mom turned vampire

I never knew HUD had special agents with training similar to FBI special agents. Anyway, after being turned, this mom leaves HUD and goes into private practice as an investigator working at night. This is one of the few vampire series where the vampire can turn into a bat - in this case a human-sized bat who not only flies in the sky but also flies in the ocean. Decent series.

Pretty Good

I received the first J R Rain book for free. I chose to listen to this one and I'm glad I did. My biggest complaint about the first book is that Sam had no backbone. In this installment, she is becoming a stronger woman and a stronger vampire. I won't give any spoilers, but I say that I don't expect her to follow the same moral code as a human. She is a vampire and in this book she begins to act like one. However, I can still tell that this was written by a man. Women are a lot more subtle. It's a good book, and, I plan to read the next book in this series as well.

Good, Light Reading

I am a fan of this series, but it's a bit like a good bowl of popcorn; you enjoy it while you're eating it, and you're certainly sorry when it's done, but if something else exciting comes along, you can easily put it down. That said, I have purchased every book and will continue to do so. The writing is smooth, although I felt something was 'off' on the interpersonal relationships until I discovered JR Rain is a man-- then it made sense. Don't get me srong, he is a good writer and makes a great story and an easy read, but the women's inner voice seems like a man's version of a woman's inner voice if you know what a mean. This is a good combo of supernatural and mystery, reminded me of Dresden Files a little. Overall, a good, solid easy to digest series that I will stick with.

Review of Vampire Moon

Would you try another book from J. R. Rain and/or Dina Pearlman?

This series is good. I read the first one and listened to the second one. I am looking forward to the third one. It is a dark series. Makes you think.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Samantha-The main character. What she struggles with.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Dina Pearlman?

I enjoyed her as a narrator. Very clear and concise

Do you think Vampire Moon needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

There is a new book in her series. I hope there is more after the third.
