Publisher's summary

Football has come to the ancient city of Ankh-Morpork - not the old-fashioned, grubby pushing and shoving, but the new, fast football with pointy hats for goalposts and balls that go glowing when you drop them. And now, the wizards of Unseen University must win a football match, without using magic, so they're in the mood for trying everything else.

The prospect of the Big Match draws in a street urchin with a wonderful talent for kicking a tin can, a maker of jolly good pies, a dim but beautiful young woman, who might just turn out to be the greatest fashion model there has ever been, and the mysterious Mr. Nutt (and no one knows anything much about Mr. Nutt, not even Mr. Nutt, which worries him, too.)

As the match approaches, four lives are entangled and changed forever. Because the thing about footballï¿¿ï¿¿ï¿¿the important thing about football - is that it is not just about football.

Here we go! Here we go! Here we go!

Critic reviews

"At its heart, this is an intelligent, cheeky love letter to football, its fans and the unifying power of sports." ( Publishers Weekly)
"In short, this is as busy and as daft as any other Discworld yarn, which means it is the quintessence of daft. Nobody writes fantasy funnier than Pratchett." ( Booklist)

Wonderful

Redemption! Hilarious and thoughtful, kind and wise, this must surely be one of Sir Pratchett’s best….and there are pies too!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Unseen Academicals: Discworld #32?

Perhaps the "football" match. But as always - so many laughs.

What about Stephen Briggs’s performance did you like?

He really understands the spirit behind the discworld

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Not you're husbands ball game - better!

Diskworld "football"

Though I'm sure I missed some of the "football" jokes being an American who's not into soccer or rugby, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was fun, and, as an academic, I enjoyed the school humor quite a lot.

Chapters are too small

Great story as always but the audio chapters are so small that it’s difficult to properly scroll through them if you fell asleep while listening. Which I do every day.

Pratchett is back

After a long wait we once again return to the disc. This is another fine Discword book staring a new main character Nutt (who I hope we see again) and the UU council, with appearances from other major discword persons such as Lady Margolotta, Sam Vimes, the low king Rhys Rhysson and even the luggage and DEATH.

Hilariously accurate portrayal of faculty

As a faculty member, I had to laugh at the hilariously accurate portrayal of the ridiculousness of faculty. the ready is well done. the writing is brilliant as always. so many quotes to quote.
