Publisher's summary

In the fifth novel in the New York Times bestselling Iron Druid Chronicles, two-thousand-year-old Druid Atticus O’Sullivan will at last bind a new Druid to protect the earth—but first he must go toe-to-toe with the Roman god Bacchus, the Norse pantheon, and an ancient vampire, all hell-bent on ensuring his demise.

“[Kevin] Hearne is a terrific storyteller with a great snarky wit. . . . Neil Gaiman’s American Gods meets Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden.”—SFFWorld

The downside to faking your own death is that people tend to get upset when they find out they’ve been had. In Atticus O’Sullivan’s case, they’re upset enough to come after him to make sure he dies for real this time. Yet he can’t remain in hiding anymore: He has to bind his apprentice, Granuaile, to the earth so that she can become the first new Druid in centuries.

But the Roman god Bacchus wants mortal revenge for a slight against him, and he proceeds to act on the principle that Atticus should hate his life until it can be ended. Members of the Norse pantheon aren’t particularly pleased with Atticus either—especially one who had languished in darkness, slowly going mad, and is now free to work his mischief again.

On top of that, an ancient vampire, who’d like to remove Atticus and Granuaile as threats to his kind, is working on his own plan for their destruction.

Forced to work at the base of Mount Olympus, Atticus and Granuaile must survive the three-month process of her binding and escape the many traps set for them. It’s fortunate that they have Oberon the Irish Wolfhound on their side—but is one good dog going to be enough to see them through it?

Critic reviews

"It may be possible that Hearne and Atticus are the logical heir to Butcher and Dresden." (SFFWorld)

“Celtic mythology and an ancient Druid with modern attitude mix it up in the Arizona desert in this witty new fantasy series.” (Kelly Meding, author of Chimera)

“A page-turning and often laugh-out-loud funny caper through a mix of the modern and the mythic.” (Ari Marmell, author of The Warlord’s Legacy)

Just buy it, it's worth it.

First, I hate you Kevin for leaving such a cliff hanger ending!

Second I wish the books were like 16 hours + long; it's such as kick ass series.

Aside from my whining, the book is go go go from the start and loved it because of that.

I want more damn it and now I gotta wait till Spring!!!

Wonderful Series

I seriously love this series. But I suppose if I am writing a review for the 5th book in the series that goes without saying.

I found this book to be reminiscent of book three. That is to say, it isn't my favorite in the series. But it is interesting nonetheless. It was very political and a lot of games were being played. Who was betraying who, who was in league with who? Although some things left me frustrated and confused...like why didn't he just take conventional methods to get to places he wanted to go, like a car or plane. It also left a lot of things unresolved.

I hope the next book ties up some loose ends. But it was an interesting listen all the same.

I Really Wanted To Like This Series

I really wanted to like this series but, I'm kind of picky when it comes to pronunciation. The mispronunciation of the Nordic names of places killed it for me. Nidavellir is pronounced NI-DA-VIE-LEER not NIDA-VED-LER. Also, anything in Norse ending with 'Heim' is pronounced as 'High-m' not 'heam.' Get it together, Luke.

Good! But getting difficult to keep track of chars

There are so many gods of so many pantheon's it's getting a little difficult to keep track of what's going on and why.

Two druids now!

Would you listen to Trapped again? Why?

Yes, it would be worth it just to hear the narrator talk through Pirun and Oberon's lines!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Trapped?

Any time Oberon claims he has been a great hound and deserves bacon...Just makes my day.

Which scene was your favorite?

Too many to pick just one, although the tattoing sequences were a lot of fun.

Addicted

I just love these stories. Kevin Hearne has crafted wonderful characters and Luke Daniels is better than icing on the cake. He has made these characters come alive. I don't know that I will ever be able to just read these books because then I would miss hearing each and every word.

The best one yet!

Wow, Trapped is a great book in the Iron Druid Chronicles. There's a 12 year time jump from Tricked and it's a bit weird, but the way the story is told, it works out. We get some details as to what happened in those 12 years. Granuale and Atticus near the end of her training and things get crazy with the Norse, and some other pantheons. There's some amazing story telling, nail-biting action, will-they won't they, and of course some great humor from Oberon.

Thankfully there's no Coyote to be seen in this tale. We get some thunder god action, Flitish, and The Morrigan to spice things up for our wily band of heroes. The series is on full-tilt towards Ragnarok, and the end of the series, even with 4 books to go. I don't know where the story ends up, but this has been a great wild ride and so far this is peak Iron Druid.

Luke Daniels is on point with his narration, lots of new voices and characters to interpret. If you've been reading this series, DO NOT STOP, this is a great read and goes down fast.

Must Read. MUST

Best book in this series thus far and by long measure. Very funny, intense action and plot formation with sexual tensions running high between the wise Druid and his lovely, badass apprentice!

Gets back to what I loved about the original

What did you love best about Trapped?

The action is back! Compared to the previous book in the series (which I was a little disappointed in), Trapped had much more action and surprise twists and turns.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Trapped?

Oberon finally getting to talk to Granuaile and then giving her a hard time about her terrible hunting skills! haha I love Oberon.

What about Luke Daniels’s performance did you like?

He convincingly does multiple voices. Often times male actors in audio books don't do female voices very well and it pulls me out of the story. Luke Daniels does all characters perfectly. Especially Oberon.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Nobody puts Atticus in a corner.

Any additional comments?

This book gets back to what I love about the Iron Druid Chronicles, however that being said, Kevin Hearne will hopefully come up with a new way to introduce conflict into his stories. Every conflict stems from his solution to the previous conflict and a chase ensues in which Atticus out smarts and out fights everyone. I love the books, but something new has got to happen.
