Move over, Buffy! Tinker not only kicks supernatural butt - shes a techie genius, too!

Inventor, girl genius Tinker lives in a near-future Pittsburgh which now exists mostly in the land of the elves. She runs her salvage business, pays her taxes, and tries to keep the local ambient level of magic down with gadgets of her own design. When a pack of wargs chase an Elven noble into her scrap yard, life as she knows it takes a serious detour. Tinker finds herself taking on the Elven court, the NSA, the Elven Interdimensional Agency, technology smugglers and a college-minded Xenobiologist as she tries to stay focused on whats really important her first date. Armed with an intelligence the size of a planet, steel toed boots, and a junk yard dog attitude, Tinker is ready to kick butt to get her first kiss.

Okay... I am totally hooked!!!

Wen Spencer with the narration of Tanya Eby not only made me care about the main characters from the very beginning, but also made their worlds implausibly real. By doing that, my own imagination took flight making the storyline my own... as if I was actually there by invitation. This is a very intoxicating and compelling combination of traits that signals a great read! I can't wait to listen to the next book in the series!!! 8-)

Physics and a 18 year old a little hard to believe

I suspended all idea's of realism and found this book most enjoyable. There is just enough action to keep you riveted and enough magic to suspend reality. I also love the fact that the characters in the book are not perfect and when they make mistakes it is world shattering.

Bummer..

I really wanted to like this book. And I do like a lot of the book. But the big events and interactions between the main characters is not something I think I can ignore. And Ive been trying for a couple of months to ignore the issues.
I've also been wanting to get book two because the world building is so cool.
But, I think that the rape issue is more than I can let go. It wasn't justified. It wasn't explained as a "a spell made me do". Nope, it was exacerbated by how the protagonist didn't feel comfortable with it, and yet went along with it again in the future. I think after considering this book for a while now, I definitely pass on any more books from this author.

NOT MY TASTE

What did you like best about Tinker? What did you like least?

Nothing much. Narration obviously for kids. Kid voice. Kid pacing. I'm not a kid.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I didn't find it interesting.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Be someone else.

Do you think Tinker needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No.

Any additional comments?

This isn't an adult book. I do not like kid lit. I didn't even like it when I WAS a kid. And I hate pipey young voices as narrators. Really HATE it.

Overall good story

A well put together and enjoyable story. I have seen some comments about "pornographic content" wouldn't put it that strong I have heard stronger in mainstream books.
Narration was good.
A little more noticeable difference between male characters would help.
The best endorsement is I will probably get the next book in the series.

It's Average

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not really my type of book. Too little action, and a bit more romance than I would have preferred

Great world building and characters

The story was well written and enjoyable. I liked the main characters. The romance was sweet and only caused me to roll my eyes a few times. Overall the pros outweighed the cons. Just once though I would like a strong female to act like a woman and not a swooning idiot. "Make love to me Wind Wolf!" Ack gag cough gag vomit vomit. Just No.

An excellent fantasy, finally available on Audible

Welcome to Pittsburgh, but a Pittsburgh that spends 29 days out of every 30 on Elfhome, a world of elves and magic, but then comes Shutdown and Pittsburgh is back in the USA where there is almost no magic.

First up, meet Alexander Graham Bell, better known as Tinker, the owner of Pittsburgh Scrap and Salvage. A mere 5 feet tall, but possessed of a brilliant scientific mind and an indomitable spirit. As we approach shutdown, Wolf Who Rules (aka, Windwolf), the head of the Wind Clan and Viceroy of the elven lands where Pittsburgh lives for 29 out of 30 days, is being chased across the city by a pack of wargs. But the wargs make a fatal mistake, chasing Windwolf into Tinker's scrap yard, and that's the end of the wargs! But also very nearly the end of Windwolf, who is gravely injured in the battle.

With no magic in Pittsburg during shutdown, Windwolf is unable to heal himself. Tinker uses a magic "capacitor" that she's built and filled while Pittsburgh was on Elfhome, combined with a healing spell she prints out on her printer, and Windwolf survives the day long shutdown. And the fun is just beginning!

This wonderful series from Wen Spencer is finally available in audiobook form, with Tanya Eby as the narrator. A great series, and a good narrator. I'm glad to finally have this series on Audible, and I'm enjoying it a lot. Highly recommended.
