Publisher's summary

In an Arizona desert a man wanders in a daze, speaking words that make no sense. Within twenty-four hours he is dead, his body swiftly cremated by his only known associates. Halfway around the world archaeologists make a shocking discovery at a medieval site. Suddenly they are swept off to the headquarters of a secretive multinational corporation that has developed an astounding technology. Now this group is about to get a chance not to study the past but to enter it. My Favorite Crichton

This is the perfect novel for someone who is both a history buff and a sci-fi fan. Crichton combines the best of both in a relatively fast-paced novel that I consider the best Crichton book.

Pretty good but not great

I'm mostly done with it now and heres what I think. Its a pretty good book. Very interesting subject matter but he seems to have done very little with it. Everyhting is very straightforward. really simple. The narrator is great EXCEPT....for his voices..they are just awful! I wish he would have just read the lines without doing the voices. I got tired of his Merrick/Schwarzeneggar voice about five minutes in. I dont want to harp on it too bad though, it was pretty good I dont regret listening just dont expect loads of depth.

Very good!

I had a very large problem with this book, i couldn't turn it off!!

As other customers have said, it's non-stop action and they arn't wrong. Highly recomend any sci-fi fan to listen to this one as soon as possible!

Timeline

One of the better books that I have had a chance to listen to. I only listen to books while driving and I found myself wanting to stay in the vehilce to finish this book. It is complete absorbing and one that I would highly recommend to all fans of science fiction.

enjoyed

I really enjoyed the story. the narrator did a really good job though occasionally I got confused who was talking. I didn't like the large gaps in the audio. I kept thinking my phone had stopped or something.
the story is great, paced really well and exciting.

The book is definitely better than the movie

I saw the movie years ago and find it very entertaining. Now, after listening to the book, I watched the movie again and felt like I was watching an entirely different story with the same cast.

They totally messed up the movie, it is nothing like the book.

If you are hesitating to listen to the book because you didn't like the movie then you are surely missing out. The book is awesome.

If you liked the movie and therefore don't see the point in listening to the book, you too are surely missing it too. The book makes a lot more sense, is more entertaining and is tremendously more thrilling than the movie.

Too Much Drama, I’m disappointed.

I love the premise but I with the author didn’t insist on trying to keep the characters in jeopardy constantly.
I would have much preferred those pages be devoted to historical background and plot development.
Also, this book is Jurassic Park but in the Middle Ages with knights instead of dinosaurs.
I guess I just expected a little more from a Michael Crichton story and feel disappointed.

Time Travel and the Middle Ages

This was my first Crichton novel. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm a sucker for historical fiction, time travel, and the middle ages; so this book hit all the buttons for me. As a fellow author (albeit nonfiction), I appreciated Crichton's ability to do meaningful character development, create viable plots (within a time travel novel), and maintain some level of historical honesty. Overall a great listen! #Clever #Provocative #MiddleAges #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

good story, bad narration

ridiculous voices, unnatural cadence (was each line recorded out of context, then stitched together in post production?) and a general sense that the narrator usually does announcements for Monday night football make a fun book to read into a cringeworthy book to listen to
