Yes! Yes! Awesomely Yes! From start to finish this books was amazing! The series isn't finished yet (I hope) but one chapter seems to be closed. There is so many things that Mark Tufo has gotten right in this one once more.
If you have been following the series (which I am guessing if you are looking at this review you have been) then you would probably have been slightly disappointed by book 5. Thank the powers that be the book has got back on track in book 6. The book is teeming with action and (unlike the precious book) does not have meaningless flashbacks. Mark Tufo seems to have been listening to my silent prayers after I finished book 5 and ramped up the action in every aspect.
Sean Runette is an excellent narrator and he kept up the great work. I am very very much satisfied!
To prevent myself from giving any away I will stop raving about the book. I am extremely thankful that the book has answered so many unanswered questions and have rejected the inclination to end on too big of a cliff hanger although I must say I was gripped up until the last sentence.
Ex-military high school math teacher.
The writing, the characters, the descriptions, okay everything.
Sean accents the characters in a way that brings them to life.
Mike's ride with Trip was hilarious.
I have to say this is my favorite Talbot book so far. I have never laughed, gripped my seat and gasped, and cringed so hard listening to a book before.
Mike is separated from his family and begins a long journey back. Thinking he is dead the family begin to prep for the LAST STAND. Along the way Mike comes across a burned out hippie and a mysterious women. The funniest moments in the book was the dialog and circumstances the burned out hippie and Mark have. There is one moment I had grit my teeth and shut my eyes during a very CLAUSTROPHOBIC situation.
Brilliant and talented series!!!!
Avid Zombie fan who's starting to listen to more and more Fantasy and Sci-Fi stories. So, my description is apt to change. Dog lover who's known to have cats. LOL C# coder, part-time prepper, B movie fan, AMC watcher, recovering but successful day trader, perpetual student, overjoyed uncle, former adrenaline junkie with a flare for cooking, and lots more. LOL
where to start? for me, there's a mix of fear and excitement reading or listening to the last book in a series, hoping the conclusion will match the overall excellence of the series. so, did this book meet my expectations? yes and no.
the good news. mark tufo is back! i didn't really like book 5 as much as the others, but this book is reminiscent of the others with a big dose of humor. some of that humor comes from mrs. deneaux. yes, the b!#*ch everyone loves to hate is featured prominently as she, bt, and gary flee north carolina for maine. while not politically correct myself, her stereotypical humor borders racism. i found it funny. most probably will b/c tufo likes to push boundaries, which is totally acceptable to me. speaking of "pc," most "pc" people probably couldn't have made it through book 1. LOL
speaking of mrs. deneaux. mark tufo is just as bloodthirsty of a killer as her. wow! the characters he kills in his novels. bet you don't see the 1st one coming.
i really liked and laughed at is a new character, john the tripper. his house is tin foiled and he wears a tinfoil hat. there are a lot of funny scenes with him and mike- when he doses mike and when he covers mike with lard.
there were several parts where i had to rewind a little b/c i couldn't pay attention to the story b/c i was laughing so hard. for instance, the get away vehicles or the clothing people are forced to wear. by far, the funniest scene was listening to what mike had to wear as he approached a bunch of truckers. sadly, i can't get that image out of my head. i won't spoil it for you, but its mike's worst nightmare. even now, i'm laughing and smiling at it.
the battles are awesome. tufo knows how to build the tension and effectively pace the fighting. the last stand at ron's house is well done. tufo outdoes himself describing the gore- running over zombies is like squishing giant packs of ketchup with meat in them.
well, we knew mike had to come back somehow. i wasn't sure how tufo was going to do it, but i figured his vamp powers had to be involved. i just didn't expect the divine intervention, and the repercussion it has on eliza.
there are a couple of plot holes. i wondered why this object of particular importance was never mentioned unless i had a brain fart and forgot what happened to it.
there's another interesting character that's introduced who has a connection to eliza. while i don't want to give too much away, she is part of the group that finally confronts eliza.
this leads me to the final confrontation. i didn't know what to expect. mike vs. eliza in a battle of wills. mike and tommy versus eliza. i guess the final battle never lives up to the hype i've built for it. when it is all said and done, i can see why tufo did it the way he did. it is satisfying, but i felt let down when it was over, mostly b/c a series i've really enjoyed was coming to an end.
speaking of the end, the final journal entry is mike's cathartic recounting of what mike went through after eliza kissed him. the last 10 seconds will blow your mind!
The Zombie Fallout series is riddled with plot holes and inconsistencies. It is in desperate need of a good editor before it reaches publication. So why do I keep listening? The characters and the narration. Sean Runnette is the perfect embodiment of Michael Talbot and does an excellent job with all the characters. And Tufo has really given life to the characters in the book. We care about what happens to them.
Some are saying this is the last in the series, but I haven't seen any confirmation by Tufo on that and there are a lot of loose ends that need resolving. The Zombies still abound. I feel confident there will be a book 7, and I will gladly spend a credit on it.
The talbot series continues - I am sad to say if is the last book (which I hope not) I will be so bummed - I love this series and I have become such a Huge Tufo fan. I loved this book and its so worth the credit -
Good day all! Always been an avid reader. Decided to pick up the art of listening to books and oh how I am hooked! Love Audible books!
Tufo has done it again in the 6th book of the Zombie Fallout series. All i have to say is amazing Mark! The ending of this book took my breath away. What a game changer the Mike and the Talbot Clan.
Cal Jones the book dude
When the story finally ended I was looking forward to download part 7 and 8. All I can say is wwmd ( WHAT WOULD MIKE DO).
"Superb finale to a brilliant series"
Mark Tufo has written a character that you can relate to on so many levels. The humour is just brilliant and set against an undertone of horror that puts it in stark relief. You will go from being nervous for the characters on minute to actually laughing out loud on the next page.
If you opt for the audiobook (I listen each day on my journey to work) I have to say that Sean Runnette's voice is simply perfect for the main character. Couldn't have imagined it read better.
I wholeheartedly recommend the entire series, and its is so refreshing to have a finale that as well as fitting with the overall story line (and not letting everything down at the last minute) actually does conclude the story. Too many writers feel they have to leave a hook or a loose end which leads on to the story never really coming to a conclusion. This one has "the right end" and concludes the story.
The most enjoyable series of books I've read in a very long time!
The plot just gets better and better. 60 hours in and I'm still loving it. Brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant
"The last but not the least"
Excellent novel. So many great characters that have been built up over the entire series. Their personas have been cleverly and lovingly crafted so that their successes an losses are keenly felt by the reader. An unexpected ending. The narration is excellent: a comfortable friend is reading to you by the fireplace in a darkened room with the lights dimmed low. If you want to read this book you absolutely must buy the entire series and start at the beginning, it's worth the investment.
I love Mark Tufos writting, he has to be one of my favourite authors and I love Sean Runette. His voice just makes the stories come alive!!!
"This is meant to be optional!! My husband was addicted and now so am I"
I have not tired of the series, 6 listened too and more to do. Thank you 😄
"I cant get enough ZF"
yes I prefer the audio version because I find I can relax and get more in to the story.
Talbot is always my favorite because hes so funny while being the least likely hero
I cant really remember any part, I just enjoyed the book as a whole
I usually laugh out loud and look like a crazy person while listening to the ZF series because Mark Tufo's sense of humor is great
"There is meat on the bone here"
Like all of the books in the series, the contents is a balance of humour and action that is so perfectly merged ,that person needs to remember not to laugh out loud whilst reading/listening(Audio book) in a public place (lest you be looked as being a crazy person). Mr Tufo seamlessly amalgamates the narrative and thus answering questions that has plagued us, the reader, throughout the series. While tying up loose ends, this book also manages to create more new questions than ever - as it forces the reader to become more and more immersed into the plot. This total absorption creates a feeling that the characters are more flesh and bone, no pun intended, as opposed to ink on page. There is the feeling, a connection if you will; for these people, and you begin to genuinely care for them.
I guess you could compare other Zombie novels. However, best comparison would be the other episodes in the series.
Oh yeah its got to be our main Mr Talbot - his voice is just gtreat
In short if I could I would. However, life just is not that way, and it is good ration out this episode.
Keep up the good writing Mr Tufo
"A poor series finale..."
This is the final book in this particular saga and it's by far the worst. Whilst this particular genre is never going to be considered great literature the previous novels have all been enjoyable, consistent and reasonably well written.
Without giving anything away the main problems include:
The ludicrous "showdown" scenario.
The constant inability of the main character to remember how he had been changed in a previous novel and what benefits this granted him.
The transformation of one of the most interesting and morally ambiguous characters into a cartoon villain.
The overly long epilogue.
Anyone who is considering buying this has presumably bought the previous novels and will inevitably buy this to complete the saga. However I've found this to be irritating enough to ensure I won't be buying any other Mark Tufo audiobooks.
"Great read from a great series!"
Without trying to give away the story, this was a excellently read by Sean Runnette again continuing the story of the Tabbott family Which completes the saga. writer Marc Tufo produced another excellent book which left wanting more!! If you have read the rest of the books you will need to read this one too!! If you have not read the Zombie Fallout books yet I highly recommend you do. You will not be disappointed! I wasn't.
"Mark Tufo does it again A*"
An excellent ending to a tremendous franchise. Mark Tufo is easily one of the best horror writers out there today. With lovable characters and tongue in cheek humour as well as a fair ammount of gore thrown in for good measure. My only worry is that we've heard the last of Mike Talbot although after just recently finishing the Indian Hill trilogy I doubt it. Must have listening for the last chapter and can't wait to hear what comes next..
