Publisher's summary

Danger waits on both sides of the grave…

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband, Bones, have fought for their lives, as well as for their relationship. But just when they’ve triumphed over the latest battle, Cat’s new and unexpected abilities threaten to upset a long-standing balance.

With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors abound that a species war is brewing. A zealot is inciting tensions between the vampires and ghouls, and if these two powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become collateral damage. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from a dangerous “ally”—the ghoul queen of New Orleans herself. But the price of her assistance may prove more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural war—to say nothing of the repercussions Cat never imagined.

If you have not read Denise's story, Stop read that before this book

One thing I do not like about this series are the spoilers you get about the other books that branched off. Other than that great books and characters.

This books was great I am excited to see how Cat's powers continues to manifest.

Chapter 21

This side of the grave chapter 21 sucked ! I love porn with the rest of the world but a woman narrated unsolicited sex session with a vampire for a whole chapter is not at all what I was really enjoying putting my Christmas lights up to !! I would say it put a damper on the whole series, there has been a few other sessions that were borderline more than I wanted to listen to but another chapter 21 and I will just turn the book off and never listen to this author again !

Another Must Read!

The Night Huntress Series has hooked me completely since book one. Jeaniene Frost continues the saga of Cat and Bones as they face battles and enemies, all the while keeping their relationship in tact. It's hard not to love their chemistry and banter. I laugh out loud at some of the things Cat or Bones says.

The narrator has done it again! Tavia Gilbert is a joy to listen to as she brings this story to life - especially the spicy scenes. Oh my! Her narration makes you really visualize the action scenes and... the other stuff :)

I highly recommend this! Warning: it ends on a cliffhanger. Which is why I am about to hit play on Book 6. hahaha

Wonderful!

At this point, it is such a cliche to say that "best book in the series" but that is how I feel about this one. I have never laughed so much reading a book in this series and the storyline was so well done. I will be listening to this one over and over, for sure!

And the punches keep on rolling...

The fifth installment of a "Cat and Bones" story that is at least as good as its predicesors, if not better in a couple of instances.
As previous reviews have noted, if you are new to the series and enjoy paranormal romance that embraces the dark with passion and the light with comedy, then this would be a series for you. Start with book 1, Halfway to the Grave, to book four and then move over to the "world" installments (First Drop of Crimson and Eternal Kiss of Darkness) before delving into this, you won't regret it.
But to this story itself, it is fabulous. The angst between Cat and Bones is gone and for this listener, I welcomed the change. They were strong in their love for eachother, all doubt and misgivings gone. The story development is strong; I laughed out loud (Vlad is by far my favourite) and felt tears dripping down my nose, it is that good.
The narrator, Tavia Gilbert, does a remarkable performance however sometimes her want to feel the emotion in the scene can sometimes obtrusive.

series get better and better

this is fifth book in series and I really loved it, Tavia Gilbert does a great job with the narration. I have to say each book gets better and better. Some authors really know how to develop a story. Jeniene Frost is one of them.

Another Hit

Book five continues the procession of successes. This installment is an extension of book 4. You really need to read book four for this book to make sense. The plot involves an impending war between vampires and ghouls. This plot has significantly more twists and turns than book four. We get a good dose of other characters and also some surprises which I will not mention (anti-spoiler).

Tavia Gilbert did a good job. You should listen to book 5. You will like it.

Read my warning

This Side of the Grave is book 5 in the Night Huntress series. I have been binging this series and I am so invested and attached to these characters. Once I am done with the series, it will feel like losing friends.

A WARNING TO ALL BEFORE READING THIS BOOK: The author has written some books that are spinoffs from this series. Two of those spinoff books are her “Night Huntress World” series. Those books are: First Drop of Crimson which is about Spade and Denise and Eternal Kiss of Darkness which is about Mencheres and a new character named Kira. I really wanted to read those books and planned to after this series. What I didn’t know, was that both of those books took place sometime between books 4 and 5 of this series. There were so many spoilers in this book from those two books that basically outlined the big stuff that happened in those books. To say I feel robbed is an understatement. I was upset, really really upset. So if you, like me, really like Spade and Mencheres and want to read their stories without spoilers, read those books before you read this book.

This book is centered around a war that is brewing between Vampires and Ghouls. There is a Ghoul leader who is spewing hate about Vampires and trying to get his followers onboard with a plan akin to genocide. He is making false claims far and wide about Cat and her strange abilities and stating that if they don’t kill as many vampires as they can to reduce their numbers, they will be doomed because Cat will gain the power of a Vampire and a Ghoul and rule them all. The guy may as well have been Hitler for the Ghouls.

There were some really cool new revelations in this book. There was also something really sad that happened and it made me tear up a bit. One of my favorite things about this series is getting to see all of Bones and Cat’s friends come together time after time to support each other and defend in battle.

The narration is still really good. I love that the narrator has very distinct voices for each of the characters. It seemed like Bones’ voice was a tad more feminine this time around but otherwise fine.

I highly recommend this series.
