Danger waits on both sides of the grave…
Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband, Bones, have fought for their lives, as well as for their relationship. But just when they’ve triumphed over the latest battle, Cat’s new and unexpected abilities threaten to upset a long-standing balance.
With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors abound that a species war is brewing. A zealot is inciting tensions between the vampires and ghouls, and if these two powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become collateral damage. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from a dangerous “ally”—the ghoul queen of New Orleans herself. But the price of her assistance may prove more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural war—to say nothing of the repercussions Cat never imagined.
Love in vein: listen to more novels in the Night Huntress series.

“Cat and Bones are combustible together.” (Charlaine Harris, number-one New York Times best-selling author)
I love urban fantasy, paranormal romance, YA, and dystopian. My favorite authors are Ilona Andrews and Kim Harrison.
I love the Cat and Bones series! The books are great, and the narrator reads with so much passion, she is amazing. I would recomend to read the the first 4 Night Huntress books, then the 2 Night Huntress World books (also amazing), and then this one, as this book references both Night Huntress World books!
I like Fantasy & Science Fiction but not into Zombie. Due to Health issues, listen to Audiobooks/read ebooks where I can enlarge the print
Jeaniene Frost only gets better . . .
Like a fine wine . . .
I loved this book. By now a series, once it had been around for awhile and had spin offs would start to pale and show signs of waning but in spite of the previous novel not being a 5 merely a 4 . . . One can't but wonder how she does it . . even her spin offs are excellent . . .
Please . . . Please . . . don't lower your standards and Please, Please continue this series . . . and the spin off both are excellent
This is the BEST FANTASY & VAMPIRE series around . . . if you have not read one her book yet do yourself a favor and do so now . . .
The lady has talent . . . and the narrator is excellent . . .
Live long and prosper . . .
At this point, it is such a cliche to say that "best book in the series" but that is how I feel about this one. I have never laughed so much reading a book in this series and the storyline was so well done. I will be listening to this one over and over, for sure!
A delicate balance stood centuries between vampires and ghouls. Along came the Red Reaper, who tipped that balance on little Cat feet.
I can sum up the entire Night Huntress in this sentence: This is a love story. If you’re new to the series, go right for the first audiobook, Halfway to the Grave. There Bones, the guy, clubs Cat, the girl, over the head and drags her to his cave where he chains her up, beats her up, and keeps her there until she learns to like him.
Enduring romance is something Jeaniene Frost does better than almost any author I can think of. Most urban fantasy novels – heck, most any romance novels – center on the chase, the tension, the possibility, between the protagonist and the love interest actually coming together. However, in this series, marriage is the story. It’s compelling, it’s possessive, and it’s immortal. Oh, and it’s also pretty hot. Jeaniene Frost knows how to write a sex scene, and Tavia Gilbert knows how to read one. If you’re looking for a typical vampire love novel This Side of the Grave will not disappoint. If you like your sex scenes with some fangs and a little blood, check out this audiobook after you’re done watching True Blood.
I hate to say it, but there was something missing. I love this series for its suspense and action as well as for the romance. In this book, there was a lack of real danger to anyone the listener cares about. Cat & Bones must stop a war from happening, but no one the listener cares about is in danger of imminent death if they fail. I know that a lot of vampires will die, and a lot of ghouls are getting hurt, but I don’t know these vampires, I don’t know these ghouls. Overall, I enjoyed the story, but not quite as much as the earlier books in the series.
The characters and the humor used by this author makes this series the best.
Kat is my favorite character. Tough yet very caring of others.
I have listened to all of the books in this series. All of the characters work well together.
I love this series I need more of Cat and Bones!!!!!
The narrator is just awesome with this series...
I have a real crazy in love relationship with books!!!
Ok. So I love the series and really enjoy listening to Cat and Bones' story. However, this book didn't do it for me. I was honestly not overly involved in this one and I did not feel a need to listen to it in one sitting. Instead, it was kind of like background music and that is sad to say because I expected more.
Even still, I am not saying it was bad...Just that when you have heard books 1-3 and they were so awesome, this one pales in comparison... In my opinion. So here is what I think is lacking: humor (it is normally freaking hilarious!), passion (I know Cat and Bones' have been together a while but geesh), and a good strong storyline.
And the ending rubbed me way wrong.
Ok so even with that being said, the narration was still great and if you have already read the early books in the series you will still want to read this. Hopefully book 6 will be much better because I can't take the disappointment lol.
Say something about yourself!
Can't get enough of Cat and Bones. Although Cat has suffered some great loss she always marches on with something new.
Worth the credit as always
Believer in what you can't see
Vlad because he always stands by Cat even though it could hurt him. His character is very funny in a twisted way.
female ghoul in New Orleans, everytime she does this character it reminds me of the oracle in the Matrix, who was strong yet compassionate.
Not this one, it was a good story but Napolian reminds me to much of the politicians now and that is just annoying.
Very good series to listen to.
So many books...so little time! :)
This one was good but not great...as Cat and Bones now face the entire ghoul race to avoid a war between their two races.
Ghouls are after Cat...most wanting to kill her to prevent another powerful ghoul from using Cat for his evil purposes. After visiting the ghoul queen of New Orleans for help to prevent war, Cat ends up wielding a ghostly power she doesn't fully understand.
There are some details that come up in here that Jeaniene Frost's other Night Huntress World books touch upon. It is best to read those first before starting this one, as it helps fill in the gaps. Realized this too late.
This book is still a good one and worth the credit. It is filled with many nail bitting scenes along with humorous ones that have you laughing out loud and the second best steamy one in the entire series! :)
"Cat and Bones versus ghouls"
Makes more sense if you've read/heard the earlier books in this entertaining vampire series. Enjoyable story with more on Cat and Bones' relationship. Characters who've appeared in the Night Huntress World series books 1 and 2 also appear fairly briefly (but with adequate explanation if you haven't read those). My only problem with the audiobooks is that this narrator makes Bones (a Londoner from the early 1800s) sound like the Artful Dodger (from Oliver Twist), with an improbably high and camp Cockney voice which I just can't match with the character in the book. I expected a voice a bit more like Vinnie Jones in "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels"! Spade, however, an English gentleman (a baronet) from the same period, gets a civilised deeper voice with a BBC accent, which is done well and is much easier to listen to. My 4 stars are for the book itself and the mostly very appropriate narration but it would have had 5 stars with a better voice for Bones.
Absolutely awesome book. Looks of scenes that are so well written (and read) that they stay strong in my mind for months afterwards. As usual brilliant writing by Jeaniene Frost and brilliant reading by Tavia Gilbert. Tavia does all the voices so differently and well, I can hardly get my head around how different all the characters sound. The books are gripping, passionate and funny. Kat, the main character, is super sassy and cool at all times. She finally takes the plunge to the 'otherside'...
"THIS SIDE OF THE GRAVE"
BRILLIANT READING AND CONTINUAL EXCITEMENT OF THE NEXT CHAPTERS THE READING IS SO ENTHRALING THAT I LISTENED TO IT ALL DAY AND NIGHT UNTIL FINISHED
