Publisher's summary

Time is a resource. Everyone knows it has to be managed. On Discworld that is the job of the highly capable Monks of History, who store it and pump it from the places where it's wasted (like underwater - how much time does a codfish need?) to places like cities, where there's never enough time. But the construction of the world's first truly accurate clock starts a race against, well, time, for the monk Lu Tze and his apprentice Lobsang Ludd. For if the perfect clock starts ticking, Time, as we know it, will stop. And then the trouble will really begin.

Subtle, sly, thought-provoking, and hilarious, Thief of Time is Terry Pratchett at his best.

This multi-voice production features Christopher Cazenove, Gabrielle de Cuir, Karesa McElheny, John Rubinstein, and Stefan Rudnicki, with a guest appearance by Harlan Ellison.

Great

Great story and the performers were fine, but the sound quality wasn't as clear as I would have liked.

Story is great, performance not so much

The book is read by multiple readers. Some are good, most are ok. Same characters can be performed by one reader and a couple of minutes later by another one.

fun

More fun with Pratchett. fairly straightforward storyline with a few surprises.
The multiple narrators were just ok. Using Mr. Ellison as a guest narrator wasn't a good idea; his voice tended to knock me out of the story. Recommended, though not a good place to start the series.

Great, but a little tough to hear

Where does Thief of Time rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Great story! Narrators do a fine job, I just wish they'd re-record some of these older terry prachett books. I love them so much, but they can be tough to hear, especially in the car or if there is outside noise going on.

Chaos is my favorite...

character in this book, then Death. The story is good, the voices are really good, too. C'mon... don't be a hunk, check it out! For your health.

Narration

I prefer the original narrator. These are several great narrators, but Sir Terry Pratchett’s works should be read by Stephen Briggs or Nigel Planer. I can’t accept anyone else. And I want the original version of Carpe Jugulum returned to my audible library. Talk about a thief of time.

each character has 3 voices,

There's seemingly random changes of narrator. I don't think they were paying attention to whose perspective was being told. Needed a director to manage things.
Classic Pratchette; Funny, scientific method to fantasy, cryptic, good book.

Audio quality is trash

Considerably worse than most of the Discworld books. Sounds like the early Doctor Who radio plays that were rescued from rotting basements.

Just think radio show and Terry Pratchett

This really is a great reading !
I believe they decided to do it this way because of the way it was written
.
The multiple voices add to the story because the story goes all over and the readers are top notch. Not the usual British accents we like for Discworld but you get past it.

There is a little noise like the highest note on a piano that separates "scenes" that perhaps I would have chosen differently but at least it's not a series of bells.

If you've ever listened to a dramatization this is reminiscent of one of those as well without sound effects.

I'm so sad the negative reviews put me off for so long.
