Acclaimed author Michael J. Sullivan created instant best sellers with his spellbinding Riyria Revelations series. This first volume introduces Royce Melborn and Hadrian Blackwater, two enterprising thieves who end up running for their lives when they’re framed for the death of the king. Trapped in a conspiracy bigger than they can imagine, their only hope is unraveling an ancient mystery - before it’s too late.

Theft of Swords contains The Crown Conspiracy and Avempartha, books 1 and 2 of Riyria Revelations.

Great author + great performance

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I put this book up there with works like the Wheel of Time and Warbreaker. It's a great epic fantasy that puts you in the middle of plot twist after plot twist - and it always comes tantalizingly close to giving you the information you seek. Luckily, this author is great when it comes to plot resolution, and explains the majority of things that you'll want to know - you just need to read further!

One cool feature of this book is this: Halfway through, you will have completed what you might consider a "full story", but you're only halfway! It was very rewarding to feel like I was experiencing the "next chapter" while still reading the same book. I hate waiting :)

What other book might you compare Theft of Swords to and why?

Wheel of Time and Warbreaker. Same quality and style.

Outstanding

Would you consider the audio edition of Theft of Swords to be better than the print version?

Never read the print version.

Any additional comments?

I haven't reviewed many books. I felt I needed to with this particular book. The story was excellent. Some parts dragged a little bit, but Tim Gerard Reynolds's narration was one of the best that I have ever heard.
Too me, the narration is just as important as the story. After all... it is an audio book. Most of the fantasy narrators are over the top. Reynolds was spot on. Great work.

Great listening !!!

I love these books. They are so incredibly well written and alive. The characters are my friends now and their sense of humor is wonderful. Hadrian and Royce are such a great team. I can't imagine finishing this series.

My favourite series ever

Where does Theft of Swords rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I could put it down. I loved it and think i even developed a crush on the main character. Which i've never done with any other character in any other book. I've now read everything that Michael J Sullivan has done.

Great fast paced read

Theft of swords built momentum nicely...started off pretty light, soon developed into a complicated, fast paced story. From a basic sword and sorcery heist caper it soon for me felt like Lord of the Rings + Name of the Rose + Game of Thrones but a bit lighter with more humor. Plot is very clever and clearly thought out well in advance. I found it perfect for long runs where a gripping story takes your mind off the pain...I bought the second one as soon as I was done. Highly recommend if you like the genre.

My new favorite author!!

I love this entire series. I have listened to all of it more than once. Michael J Sullivan is severely under appreciated.

This series is a great example of character development done very well. Although the series starts off with the cliche of two opposites who learn from one another, I have to say I enjoyed every second of it. I could listen to their banter all day.

This author is also very talented with tying ends together that could have seemed inconsequential if you weren't paying attention. (Not that there is much useless detail by any means) He also has a series that occurs thousands of years before, beginning with Age of Myth (also amazing!). It doesn't contain big spoilers but does provide amusing easter eggs.

I could continue on with all the things I love about it, but most people don't read the super long reviews. Just download it and thank me later 😊 Keep up the great work Mr. Sullivan (and Robin)!

Love these guys

I could listen to Royce and Hadrian all day. TGR the best fantasy narrator around. The performance was incredible and the story great. Can’t recommend this author and series enough.

I highly recommend this book

Stay with it a couple chapters. I wasn't captivated from the first couple chapters but then the book unfolded and I was hooked. I would go hours at work waiting to get back to it. I am definitely continuing with this series! If you like Star Wars, Dune or the Hobbit you'll like this book!
