As Brin reluctantly joins Allanon on his dangerous journey, a prophecy foretells an evil plan to trap the unsuspecting Brin into a fate more horrible than death. But she has the help of her brother, Jair, and the protection of Rone Leah, who takes his job very seriously, as the comic rustics, Weapons Master Garet Jax and Slanter the gnome, leaven the fantasy.

    "Great book and Great reader"

This is a great book. I wish I had heard the other 2 books unabridged (Sword of Shannara and Elfstones of Shannara). Hope they get more unabridged books for this series.

"A fitting end to a great trilogy"

I read this trilogy many years ago and was thankful that there was an unabridged version on audible that allowed me to revisit the Shannara stories. The Wishsong is clearly the darkest of the trilogy and the best written. Contrary to an earlier reviewers comments, this is NOT a LOTR knockoff. If someone writes a book that has a shark kill someone does that mean its a JAWS ripoff? Of course not. It's a fantasy book. There is going to be a good and evil character in it. Deal with it. Terry Brooks is an excellent writer and storyteller and the world he creates is dark yet full of hope. I also found the pace to be much quicker in this book then the other two and much less predictable to figure out who was going to die and what was going to happen. As for the narration, Scott Brick is the MAN! Anyone who thinks otherwise has obviously never heard Charles Keating butcher these novels. For those who venture into the Shannara realm you will be rewarded with some of the best storytelling of our time. Treat yourself and make sure you get the "unabridged" edition so you don't miss a beat.

    "Typical Brooks"

Plot is much like the rest of his longer books, but still captivating, if you liked one you will more than likely enjoy The Wishsong as well.

    "Awesome!"
What did you love best about The Wishsong of Shannara?

I have also enjoyed this series by Terry Brooks, but the reader really drew me in. He was terrific!

What other book might you compare The Wishsong of Shannara to and why?

Other than the author's other books in this line, I am not sure how to respond. I do not know many others in this genre other than Tolkien. However, I don't think the two are the same. While I enjoy Tolkien's stories, they can sometimes drag - Brooks is always moving forward.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I can't honestly say, I stayed engaged throughout the entire book. I guess I especially enjoyed the interactions between Jair and Slanter.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes - the same goes for the first two books in the series "The Sword of Shannara" and "The Elfstones of Shannara."

    Any additional comments?

These books are the main reason I joined Audible. Once I am done with the full series, I am looking forward to checking out other authors who write and elves and such =)

    "More stellar characters."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book and have already to my wife. The third book in the original trilogy is the best of them all. Once again, the author gives us memorable characters doing heroic, selfless things. Slanter is by far my favorite character so far in all the books.

What other book might you compare The Wishsong of Shannara to and why?

Lord of the Rings books. The influence is quite evident here.

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?

    Slanter. Awesome character.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Sure, if I had 20 hours to kill.

    Any additional comments?

Listen to this book and enjoy the great characters.

I am a person that tries and get through 1 book a week if possible. I am Dyslexic so this is really the only way I can get through a book. I have listened to more book in a year than I read my first 20 years of my life. I found the joy of audio books in the early 2000 and have been a audible customer since 2000 or 2001. I have over 490 books in 2 different accounts and listened to 90%.

"Best book of the Three, very enjoyable"
What other book might you compare The Wishsong of Shannara to and why?

I see bits and pieces of a lot of different books in this one. Pern, Eragon, LOR, Hobbit, and etc..., Really thought he did a nice job of putting all the races on the same playing field.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

Scott is a natural and always look at what he has done recently. I know if he is reading it I will listen to it. Might not always be the best story line but he can make a bad story line better.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The power of a love between a brother and sister.

    "Enthralling story/series"
If you could sum up The Wishsong of Shannara in three words, what would they be?

    Grand escapism adventure!

What did you like best about this story?

    Love adventure/quest stories

    Which scene was your favorite?

    Most with Slanter

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Another Quest begins

    Any additional comments?

Scott Brick really does a good job creating characters who can be kept up with solely by the voice.

"Original Shannara Series Ends With a Whimper"
    Any additional comments?

Never straying too far from the standard fantasy elements that Brooks’ helped define, The Wishsong of Shannara is at best a moderately satisfying conclusion to the original Shannara series. The story follows the adventures of the third generation of Ohmsford’s as they follow Allanon on a quest to save the world again from another evil force that threatens all life. The plot is nearly identical to both The Sword of Shannara and the Elfstones of Shannara and for that this particular novel doesn’t stand out or earn high praise from prolific fantasy fans. Although there are a few tragedies tossed in and some babbling about the “end of an age” this novel in no way feels like the end of anything. Filled with a colorful assortment of predictable, paint-by-number fantasy characters and your standard assortment of travel-fight interesting monster-travel-fight interesting monster passages I found this book to be only moderately enjoyable. If you’re a fan of standard, predictable fantasy you might enjoy this book as a stand-alone read (having read the previous novels in the series is not at all necessary) but there are definitely better books out there. The audiobook narration is adequate.

"Look out Lord of the Rings!"

I just finished listening to the third book of the Shannara series, and I was so sorry to come to the end. Terry Brooks did a fantastic job in creating this world and the characters in it. With the help of Scott Brick's eloquent talents, the stories unfolded in my mind like a movie. The action was great and the story moved along well, though told in great detail.

    "Amazing"

Terry Brooks is by far my favorite author. I wasn't much of a reader until my friend suggested this series. I am totally addicted now. The Wishsong is my favorite on thus far. Terry Brooks is the only reason that I read anything now. I will be passing it on to my friends and family in the years to come. Keep up the good work and I'll keep on buying your books.

    "Wishong Of Shannara"

When you go the whole hog and choose one of the 'unabridged' titles; especially when it is a large, large book, one wants to be justified. This was my first 'whole book' and I must say Scott Brick does a good job. Credit where credit is due. It was a relief that it was well recorded too, as the abridged Elfstones Of Shannara (which is a superb novel, had a reader who, though genuinely breathtaking at his job, was badly, very badly let down, by the quality of the recording. Not the story with the unabridged Wishsong Of Shannara. The third and last in the Shannara trilogy. The audio quality was fine and matched every bit by Mr Brick's fine narration. His character voices are believable and Terry Brooks's writing suspenseful, nicely paced and rewards with a worthy and well executed final two chapters.
