Publisher's summary

Fans of the Shannara epic will revel as the forces of good battle an evil book, the Ildatch, which sends the Mord Wraiths to destroy mankind. To overcome this dark force, the Druid Allanon needs Brin Ohmsford, for she holds the power of the wishsong, a magic invoked by singing that can make plants bloom instantly or turn trees from green to autumn gold.

As Brin reluctantly joins Allanon on his dangerous journey, a prophecy foretells an evil plan to trap the unsuspecting Brin into a fate more horrible than death. But she has the help of her brother, Jair, and the protection of Rone Leah, who takes his job very seriously, as the comic rustics, Weapons Master Garet Jax and Slanter the gnome, leaven the fantasy.

Amazing narrator! Terrible Protagonists!

Brin and Jair are so idiotic in their principles and lack of imagination. It takes you right out of the story. They must be the dullest humans ever described in fiction. It's like a moron ex machina nightmare. On the other hand this narrator is INCREDIBLE!!! So not a bad book overall. The protagonists are just dumber than a box of rocks and they stay that way.

The Wish Song of Shanara

This is the third book of the series that I have read/listened to and I got to say they are very addictive and alluring. Wishsong brook my heart though because of lives loss, racial profiling, and separation of friends. I remember reading these books many, many years ago and listening to them seems like I’ve never read them before. The performance was excellent and kept me interested the whole time and separation of characters voiced was easy to tell detect. You can almost picture them in action as he read even though I’m missing Jack, the Elvin prince and the dwarves. Great job!

Good story; terible narration.

Terry Brooks tells a terrific story. Even the filler is pretty good. The narrator leaves quite a bit to be dsired. His pronunciation of some of the words is incorrect and grateson the ears and nerves.
Add is inability to show a range of character voices caused me to wonder what character was speaking.

Okay

The story, is good. I've been a fan of Terry Brooks for nearly 30 years now. The performance was very over dramatic and the dialects employed felt pretentious and overwrought. I am perfectly willing to entertain the notion that I am overly sensitive in this regard. If I am, though, likely others will be as well.
