Publisher's summary

Sequel to the extraordinary The Name of The Wind, The Wise Man’s Fear is the second instalment of this superb fantasy trilogy from Patrick Rothfuss.

This is the most exciting fantasy series since George R. R. Martin's A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, and a must for all fans of HBO's GAME OF THRONES. Picking up the tale of Kvothe Kingkiller once again, we follow him into exile, into political intrigue, courtship, adventure, love and magic . . . and further along the path that has turned Kvothe, the mightiest magician of his age, a legend in his own time, into Kote, the unassuming pub landlord. Packed with as much magic, adventure and home-grown drama as The Name of the Wind, this is a sequel in every way the equal to its predecessor and a must for all fantasy fans.

Engaging and gripping, The Wise Man’s Fear is the biggest and the best new fantasy novel out there.

Just flawless.

Any additional comments?

Flawless part one of book two of the series, capturing me just as much as the first book did. There is just too many good things to say about this book. I couldn't have asked for more and I loved every bit of it. A must read for any fantasy lover.

GIVE THIS MAN AN OSCAR!!!!!!!

YOU HAVE NEVER NOR WILL YOU EVER HEAR A BETTER VOICE ACTOR!!!. My God Rupert Degas is the best! he does different voices for each character and he does sound effects! like when they laugh, of cough, he even did the sound of a donkey! YES A DONKEY!!!! i could recognize every character without the book saying who was talking, just because he does different voices and accents for each one. For the love of God listen to this book 10/10 would recommend. Also this story is the best. THE. BEST.

Wow what a gem this series is....I have just listened to both books again and now I am ruined for finding another series as expertly crafted as these...please write faster Patrick......but it has to have Rupert Degas to keep narrating it....he is also an expert at his craft WOW!!! The A team!!

Outstanding writing, great yet flawed performance

Where does The Wise Man's Fear rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It ranks second after "The name of the wind".

What did you like best about this story?

The author caresses the words, choses them meticulously and with great love and thought to bring you the joy of seeing the world through the eyes of a wise man.

Which character – as performed by Rupert Degas – was your favorite?

Given that Rupert Degas has put out over a dozen different and distinguishable voices for this book, I would not pick one.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book made me think, imagine, empathise, enjoy the words and contemplate on life.

Any additional comments?

Though the performance by Rupert Degas is fantastic, there are some flaws that spoiled my pleasure several times. The narrator's microphone is tuned in such a way that it cannot catch certain inflections, most often, voiceless consonants, so the words "joyless" and "dark" would sound as "joyle..." and "daa". There are also at least three technical repetitions towards the end of the book, indicating mistakes in the editing of the sound file.

Breathtaking

The two first books of the kingkiller chronicle have absolutely swept me away with their lyrical language and the enchanting story. I am not entirely sure what to do with myself until the doors of stone are published. Beautifully narrated. A masterpiece of an epic fantasy.

One of the best audio books.

Reading and listening both, I'm partly sorry for reading - I don't have so good character voices in my head. Totally recommend it, voice actor in big letters.

Don't listen to those who say you should not read since the third book is not out. It's a really stupid reason to not read it. Kvothe isn't easiest character to like, but the story is very well written and deep.
