Publisher's summary

According to mythology, mankind used to live in 'The Tranquiline Halls': heaven. But then the Voidbringers assaulted and captured heaven, casting out God and men. Men took root on Roshar, the world of storms, but the Voidbringers followed. The Almighty gave men powerful suits of armor and mystical weapons, the Shardblades. Led by 10 angelic Heralds and 10 orders of knights known as Radiants, mankind finally won (or so the legends say).

Today the only remnants of those supposed battles are the Shardblades, the possession of which makes a man nearly invincible on the battlefield. The entire world is at war with itself - and has been for centuries since the Radiants turned against mankind. Kings strive to win more Shardblades, each secretly wishing to be the one who will finally unite all of mankind under a single throne.

On a world scoured down to the rock by terrifying hurricanes, a young spearman is forced into the army of a Shardbearer, led to war against an enemy he doesn't understand and doesn't really want to fight.

Embed yourself in a world of stormlight

Brandon Sanderson has a wonderful imagination. His books open a world of science fiction and fantasy whilst conveying a strong sense of human emotion. I am amazed by the way Brandon depicts fight scenes. It feels like you are there watching silently, not being able to do anything. There are times I have sat in my car at the side of a road finishing a scene not wanting to let the audio book go until the fight is finished. Michael and Kate have done a fantastic job reading this story, it is better than watching a movie mostly because the story lasts longer.

30 hours of boredom, 15 hours of great fun

I will admit, I never thought I'd finish this book. It took me few months to actually finish listening to it, with breaks to listen to other books. This book takes forever to start being interesting. You're reading about multiple characters that are very basic and boring in the beginning, and the narrator's sleepy voice just makes it that less fun. But once I reached the 30-ish hour mark, things started to be much more interesting as the plot unravelled and I got a stronger sense of the characters. Now I'm left wanting to listen to the second book after that finale. I really hope I won't have to suffer through another 30 hours to get to the good stuff.

😭❤️

First of all. I don't know if I can ever listen to any audiobook that isn't narrated by 'Michael kramer' anymore. The story is amazing and I believe that with every sanderson book I'm raising my standards so high I could never read any kind of fantasy anymore because it wouldn't be good enough for me. 🥹 I just love his works so much I don't know what else to say 😭✨

Brilliant!

Wow! Brilliant! One doesn't realise Brendan Sanderson's genius until you reach the end and can encompass the entire book. To write 40 hours of material with focus and and keeping the dialogues sharp and inventive is a unique talent.

This book had a great variety of characters. Some "critic" reviews on other sites have complained about characters lacking depth. But, I found all the characters were well rounded and had a variety of facets to their personality.

I would highly recommend listening to this book.

Faacinante
