Publisher's summary

From number one New York Times best-selling author Brandon Sanderson, The Way of Kings, book one of the Stormlight Archive, begins an incredible new saga of epic proportion.

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter.

It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor that transform ordinary men into near-invincible warriors. Men trade kingdoms for Shardblades. Wars were fought for them and won by them.

One such war rages on a ruined landscape called the Shattered Plains. There, Kaladin, who traded his medical apprenticeship for a spear to protect his little brother, has been reduced to slavery. In a war that makes no sense, where 10 armies fight separately against a single foe, he struggles to save his men and to fathom the leaders who consider them expendable.

Brightlord Dalinar Kholin commands one of those other armies. Like his brother, the late king, he is fascinated by an ancient text called The Way of Kings. Troubled by over-powering visions of ancient times and the Knights Radiant, he has begun to doubt his own sanity.

Across the ocean, an untried young woman named Shallan seeks to train under an eminent scholar and notorious heretic, Dalinar's niece, Jasnah. Though she genuinely loves learning, Shallan's motives are less than pure. As she plans a daring theft, her research for Jasnah hints at secrets of the Knights Radiant and the true cause of the war.

The result of more than 10 years of planning, writing, and world-building, The Way of Kings is but the opening movement of the Stormlight Archive, a bold masterpiece in the making.

Speak again the ancient oaths:

Life before death.

Strength before weakness.

Journey before destination.

And return to men the Shards they once bore.

The Knights Radiant must stand again.

Editor's Pick: Best of the Decade

Here’s to another 10 years at the top
"My journey as a Brandon Sanderson fan began more than a decade ago. My brother and I discovered one of his very first published books, Mistborn, at a gas station rest stop in high school and both of us have been hooked ever since. But Brandon Sanderson, who started out as our little secret, has grown to be one of the biggest and most respected names in fantasy today. It’s been such a joy and delight to be his fan as he’s only gotten better and better at creating compelling, creative, and human stories over the years. Is it weird to say that I feel proud? There is no doubt in my mind that his epic series, the Stormlight Archive, deserves a spot as the best of the decade."—Melissa B., Audible Editor

confusing start, slow buildup, fantastic end.

The narrator's are epic to say the least. the story starts off with strange words and stranger natural laws. The main characters are built up well, causing the reader to cheer them on from the sideline, and mentally scream at the injustices endured. The ending has me hooked and wanting more.

A very good reading of an amazing book

Having two voices for this book was a good starting point, though with the variety of “voices” in the story, at least two more voices would go a long way towards bringing it fully to life

All that said, I *love* this work - the Way of Kings and the broader Stormlight Archive and even wider Cosmere series is epic in all the best ways

Worldbuilding, *universe* building, all while keeping each story intimate and personal

Brandon Sanderson is, I believe, the best living author in this genre

The woman ruined it

Good Job Mr. Kramer as always! But who decided to hire Siri to read a book and thought it's a good idea beats me.
I don't know if I can bare the whole book with Alexa over herereading this aweome written book.

Really great book overall

I hate having two different narrators, but this book was worth the disjointed feeling two narrators give.

Dope

I think I like the start of stormlight more than I liked the start of mistborn and that’s saying something. Characters, pacing, story….all top tier my only regret is waiting so long to start this series

Great Story, Good Voices, Slow Readers

Loved this book soooo much. The is the man for a reason. The narrators do a good job with the voices and makes it easy to see what you hear. My only complaint, they read too slow! I listened to the entire book on x1.5
