Reseñas editoriales

In the third of Burroughs's "John Carter of Mars" series, the man from Earth unites warring races and is reunited with his love, Dejah Thoris. John Bolen unnecessarily reads the story with a Virginia accent, but he does so effectively and consistently in a way that does not take away from the performance. The recording is unadorned by music or other effects. The story is a fitting and exciting conclusion to the first three audiobooks, and provides a satisfying surprise ending.

Resumen del Editor

John Carter risks everything to rescue his wife, Princess Dejah Thoris, from the clutches of his evil adversaries, but he is always just one step behind! His battles cover the face of the red planet, as his quest carries him ultimately to the mysterious northern pole. Will this civilization, submerged in ice, prove fatal to our hero?

The third in Burroughs' 11-volume Mars series, a blend of sci-fi and romantic adventure.

6 Months Later.

John Carter is still trying to get his woman back. Most of this book he is chasing down the bad guys trying to save her. It starts to get old how many times she is kidnapped. Anyway if you liked the first two books, you will like this one. This is my stopping point with the series only because it is a mediocre series to me. I only read this far because if you get the free kindle version, book 2 & 3 are only .99 each. Narrator has a nice southern voice, but the names in the story start to sound the same and is slightly confusing.

Not as bad as some of the reviews

This is another wonderful entry in the Barsoom saga, and I did enjoy the story. One specific comment I'd like to make is in regards to the quality of the narration; while not the best quality or consistency it is certainly not so bad as to cause me to want to return my purchase or stop listening. IMO if you like Barsoom this version will do until a better version becomes available.

A rousing John Carter adventure

Be sure to read the two previous novels in the John Carter series (A Princess of Mars, and Gods of Mars) before this one. A lack of context for this work will leave you wondering what all the fuss is about. This tale provides an exhilarating conclusion to the cliff hangar ending in Gods of Mars. Exhibiting his creative genius, Edgar Rice Burroughs uses this tale as an expansion of the entire Barsoomian fantasy setting. There is hidden treasure within the books' social commentary about religion and race relations. Impress people at your next literary cocktail party by comparing and contrasting the Therns with any organized religion you care to pick on.

John Bolen narrates this work with both skill and, more importantly, with respect. Subject matter that seems campy and stilted by comparison with modern fiction is delivered professionally. Mr. Bolen performs a subtle Southern accent very well, imparting just the right amount of geography to John Carter. He speaks with a slow cadence that I find reverential, which is perfectly suited to this science fiction classic.

Highly recommended for fans of classic science fiction.

A Trip to Mars.

Bolen, in his excellent "southern gentleman" drawl, continues the fascinating story of John Carter's adventures on the planet Mars. The Mars of Burroughs' imagination is a million times more interesting than the harsh and hostile planet we've all read about in science books. This wonderful audiobook will thrill you.

Great Read

If you could sum up The Warlord of Mars in three words, what would they be?

violent love story

What did you like best about this story?

I love the whole series, and this is just another great installment in it.

What does John Bolen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Even though his attempts at accents don't go very well, he does a passable enough job that you can understand what is going on.

John Boleyn

I am very disappointed with the narrator. Having listened to an earlier book in the series narrated by Scott Brick which drew me into the story, Mr Bolen with his southern plantation drawl became so irritating that I couldn’t stand more than a charter.
The narrator should not be part of the story but should allow the words on a page let YOU be part of the story.
I was willing to pay twice for the same book just to hear Scott Bricks voice and not the so called southern gentleman.
