Publisher's summary

Bahzell Bahnakson of the Horse Stealer hradani had never wanted to be the champion of the War God. Unfortunately, the War God had insisted. Which was how he had found himself among hostile strangers in the Empire of the Axe - except that that was only the least of his problems.

For a start, there was the Order of Tomanak, who were horrified that their deity had chosen a hradani as champion, and were resolved to rectify the matter in a most unpleasant fashion. And if he survived that, he had to get home somehow, in spite of the enemies determined to stop him, to face the Dark God who had sworn to destroy all hradani. But one thing Bahzell had learned: a champion of the War God Tomanak does what needs to be done. And those who got in his way had better watch out.

Paladin in action

Once I started the first book, I ended up getting the second immediately, and I am planning on getting the third book soon. Like this first book it is also a fast paced book.

It is very enjoyable audio book that style of narration matches with the story very well, and over all it is a lot of fun to listen to this book.

Our barbarian Paladin is introduced officially to the rest of its deity's order, and things become interesting. Book has a very good narrative about the prejudices and bigotry though sometimes it is repetitive.

Couple of characters introduced in book are amusing and sense of humor does work within this book as well. It is pretty much a continuation of first book without any breaks and I recommend this book as well that these books are solid 4 star books. Very enjoyable.

Fantastic!!!

I don't normally get emotionally involved in books but this one got me.
I cheered for the good guys and hated the villains!
Great read. I couldn't stop listening to it!

A rousing good time with a perfect mix of adventure, combat and high level politics!

I absolutely love this book and I’ve listened/read it a dozen times.

The humor is on point, the sense of a vast land entertains and somehow it makes you want to sign up to go out and smite evil doers all at once!

Not just a sequal.

This second book works well as a sequal, or as a stand alone story; it's actually better than the first book, becuase the characters are established; so the author needs do no more than remind the reader about who's who, instead of spending a lot of time establishing the players. The reader, as always, is excellent.

Weber does it again

Normally when a science fiction writer turns to fantasy, the result is sub par. With this book and its predecessor, David Weber makes great classic style fantasy on par with R.A.Salvatore and Raymond E. Feist. The addition of the excellent voice talent of Nick Sullivan only serves to better the story overall. Definitely one of the best fantasy audio books I've listened to.

David Weber does Magic

David Weber is one of my favorite scifi writers. But that's not this book. Instead he has created a well thought out world of magic and myth. Still alot of fighting 😀. I would recomend this series

Fantastic

This book had me dying laughing as Bahzell Bahnakson goes through his journeys. The performance by Nick Sullivan continues to awe listeners. I highly recommend this book, and the previous in the series.
