Publisher's summary

A timeless epic of the dawn of civilization.

In The Valley of Horses, Ayla, the unforgettable heroine of The Clan of the Cave Bear, sets out on her own odyssey of discovery away from the nurturing adoptive family and friends of the Clan. She is in search of others like herself and in search of love.

Sharing a hidden valley with a herd of steppe horses, Ayla finds a unique friendship with animals as vulnerable as herself and ingeniously discovers the complex skills needed to survive - skills no Clan member was ever able to master.

But none of her experiences prepares her for the emotional turmoil she feels when she rescues a young man - the first of the Others she has seen - from almost certain death.

Torn between her desire for human companionship and her fear of the unknown Others, she struggles against her deep attraction to the handsome Jondalar. It is Jondalar who teaches her the meaning of true friendship and love.

my favorite of the series

the story is amazing, the details given a proof of the research the author conducted prior to writing these books. the Narain was fine but would be so much better if a male could have read the a masculine lines.

Wonderful Series

This collection is by far my favorite series of books I’ve ever read. And I’ve read them at least 25 times, the detail and extraordinary stories just envelope you in a world so different yet so relatable you can’t help but become involved. A story of triumph, tragedy, and love.

Good Segway

The book does not stand on its own. You have to listen to the first book in the series. it borders on erotica a lot! And at times is boring with detail. but it's a good Segway book in the series

boring

repetitive passages, slow plot line, and unnecessarily long sexual description not necessary for understanding the story.

creative cultural stories

I appreciate her thorough research into the prehistoric world and tools. I learned so much about their habits and the amazing diversity of flora and fauna. enjoyed the imaginative cultural stories.

Story is descriptive and beautiful 😍

Story is descriptive and beautiful and deep.
Narration needed to be slowed to 90% speed and was missing the end of one chapter near the end 🙃
