Publisher's summary

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Kim Harrison returns to the supernatural adventures of Rachel Morgan in the penultimate book of the Hollows series.

Witch and day-walking demon Rachel Morgan knows magic - earth, ley line, even the forbidden demon magic - and that knowledge has saved her life more than once. But now something - or someone - is attacking Cincinnati and the Hollows, causing spells to backfire or go horribly wrong while living vampires attack humans and Inderlanders alike.

The pressures build when the city is quarantined to contain the unreliable magic, and Rachel must stop the attacks before the undead vampire masters who keep the rest of the undead under control are lost and it becomes all-out supernatural war.

The only way to do so is through the ancient elven magic, but that carries its own perils - for magic always has a price, and gods do not come lightly when called.

I can't believe it's almost over!!!!

I believe that the next book will be the last in the series and it makes me a little sad. However, this is an awesome second to the last book. There is a lot of foreshadowing and by the end of the book you feel like you're creeping to the top of the hill on a massive roller coaster- lots of adrenaline, excitement and a little foreboding. The storyline is great- the undead asleep, magic going haywire and the chaos that goes along with it. The mystics are an interesting aspect and I hope they come into play in the next book (I kind of hope the series ends with Rachel becoming the Goddess). Al is one of my favorite characters and I hope that he's in the next book. I also hope the chrysalis survives. This has been one of my favorite series, the characters have always been interesting and the storylines never stale. I will be sad to see it end, but what a ride it's been.

Marguerite Gavin has been an awesome narrator- every voice discernible and every voice consistent throughout every book. Can't say enough good things about how talented she is!!

This was great!! Love Rachel!!!

What made the experience of listening to The Undead Pool the most enjoyable?

The Story and The Narration....OF COURSE!!! LOL

Who was your favorite character and why?

RACHEL AS ALWAYS!! Followed by Jenks...

What about Marguerite Gavin’s performance did you like?

She was Flawless as always...she is one of my ATF Narrators!!! She IS Rachel in my book!!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Oh I was so sad over the ending scene with Al...I hope in the future things change..But Rachel deserves to be happy...and so does Trent!!!

Any additional comments?

I love the Hollows...and I know there will be another one now...so I am very happy!! Rachel and Trent really made progress in this book...and I hope going forward they just become stronger...I hope Rachel can heal her relationship with the demons...I think she needs them...this was awesome...I did not want it to end!! 2 thumbs up!!!

Thank you Kim Harrison!

Would you listen to The Undead Pool again? Why?

I LOVE this series. I wait for the books to come out and usually preorder them... I do listen to the series about twice a year, after it's not so fresh in my mind....

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love all of the characters. But I think if I HAD to choose one, it would be Jinx...he's so funny and M. Gavin reads the parts with perfection.

Which scene was your favorite?

I don't want to give away anything to anyone who hasn't read it yet, but I was biting my nails waiting for Rachel and Trent to finally hook up...lol

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed during some parts...

Any additional comments?

It's a great book, they all are. I'm VERY SAD about there only being one book left after this one... I really wish Kim Harrison would keep the Hollows alive....this is one of the only series that I look forward to. I love the Anita Blake Series by Laurell K. Hamilton, the Otherworld Series by Kelley Armstrong (which is over now...sad but true), The Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charlaine Harris (also over), anything by Cassandra Clare, Melissa Marr and Christopher Moore, the Love Story being my favorite by Christopher Moore and the House of Night Series by PC Cast...so these series are my favorites and it's sad when they end. But out of all of these, and more authors and series, I love the Hollows series the best.

Save the best for last?

Would you consider the audio edition of The Undead Pool to be better than the print version?

I don't know, I have not read the print edition.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the way Rachel 's friends always rally around her. They love her and they are really family even though they are different species.

Have you listened to any of Marguerite Gavin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have and they are all good. Marguerite Gavin knows how to perform and bring a book to life.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Rachel and the Mystics

Any additional comments?

I don't know if this is Rachel and Kim Harrison's last book, but if it is it ended with a bang. I hope it is not the last of Rachel, Jenks, Trent and Ivy. They have been a part of my life for so long. I'm not sure what it will be like without them.

Still Endless Possibilities

I love how much Rachel and Trent grow and find they really can trust each other. There are endless possibilities for their future. Ivy is realizing she can be the person she always wanted to be. Jenks.....they still can't survive without him thank goodness. Everyone owes Rachel after this and I can't wait to see what they get into next!

Love the new Couple!

12th Book --The Undead Pool is great

I have really enjoyed this series. I have listened to the unabridged version of most of them. Marguerite Gavin is wonderful to listen and brings the strory to life.
I look forward to listening to the last book of the series--although I am sad that the story line is ending.

Love it!

Any additional comments?

Rachel and crew are back to save the world again. Even though this is the 12th book in a series, it doesn't have an overdone feeling. Instead, Kim Harrison finds ways to make the plot seem new each time while developing the main characters in a manner that seems believable. Taken together, these elements leave the reader/listener feeling like he/she is curling up to check in on the exciting adventures of some old friends. The only part of the world Kim Harrison has built that sometimes forces a disconnection between the reader/listener and the story is as follows: Kim Harrison sometimes forgets to explain specifics about the Midwest; so, if the reader/listener isn't from the Midwest, he/she may get a little confused. An example from this book is that Kim Harrison forgets to explain to the reader/listener just how close Cincinnati is to Columbus. Also, Marguerite Gavin is one of my favorite narrators. Thanks to the publisher for keeping her employed.

Great story

I enjoyed the story as this is my third listen but I do wonder why the pronunciation of some of the names changed.

Awesome step in the Hollows saga!

Kim Harrison's brilliant Hollows series follows the story of Rachel, a witch, and Trent, an Elf. Supporting cast includes smart mouthed pixie, living vampire, demon, and werewolf. Oh yeah, a few humans, too. Set in an America 40 years after a devastating plague these characters find themselves in situations that require they all work together to save them all.
