Publisher's summary

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Kim Harrison returns to the supernatural adventures of Rachel Morgan in the penultimate book of the Hollows series.

Witch and day-walking demon Rachel Morgan knows magic - earth, ley line, even the forbidden demon magic - and that knowledge has saved her life more than once. But now something - or someone - is attacking Cincinnati and the Hollows, causing spells to backfire or go horribly wrong while living vampires attack humans and Inderlanders alike.

The pressures build when the city is quarantined to contain the unreliable magic, and Rachel must stop the attacks before the undead vampire masters who keep the rest of the undead under control are lost and it becomes all-out supernatural war.

The only way to do so is through the ancient elven magic, but that carries its own perils - for magic always has a price, and gods do not come lightly when called.

Each book in series gets better *BEST YET*

What made the experience of listening to The Undead Pool the most enjoyable?

Kim Harrison's Character development over the series, this book really is the turning point of many relationships and interactions between characters. Marguerite Gavin as always is the voice of every "Hollows" book. Each character's voice and emotion is done fantastically

What other book might you compare The Undead Pool to and why?

I can only compare to other books in this series. You just CAN'T read THIS book with out reading the whole series. If you read book one and like it I promise you every book will get better. Reminds me of "Dresden files" Each book just got better.

Which scene was your favorite?

One with Nute, which really shows she may not be as crazy as everyone thinks she is. I found that really enjoyable. There were many others but saying so would be real spoilers,.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

YES, and I can't give it away because it would ruin the story for any one listening.

Any additional comments?

I've loved this series from the start, and I'm so looking forward to the next book. I'm told it will be the last book in the series, I'm hoping not. But if it is I'm sure Ms Harrison will make it a real bang up occasion.

I will never complain about Kim Harrison's books

I don't like to regurgitate the plot, I'll just say I have all the Hollows books from the beginning and Kim's is a great plot master. The only thing I hate is waiting for the next book, (oh my gosh #13), and as all good things, someday it has to end. But whenever that day comes, I will be sad. Please if you are new to the series do yourself a favor and start at the beginning. There are so many characters that came before who are referred to and you need to know what the background was. You will not be sorry.

Holy Mystics and Pixie sparkles...

Okay, this is one of my top favs of this series. Why? Well, there are many reasons.. one and the biggest is we FINALLY get to see Trent and Rachel in the same corner, no holds bar. There is no more denying the circling feelings we have been tortured with for the last couple of books. They are a great team and seeing them in action together is golden. They can work with each other in a way that you only get to see with people that can truly read their partners every move. They have each others back no matter what others have to say about it.

No one likes them spending so much time together... but in the end it is what they want and for the first time in this series they both get to see what it is they actually want and follow through with it. There is all kinds of craziness happening around them. Unexplained waves of energy are escaping from Rachel's lay line and sweeping over Cincinnati and the Hollows. The Masters are asleep... and Free vampires are running amuck in the area. Each faction (human cops, IS, Weres and all in between) are scrambling to get the city under control but it isn't until Rachel figures out what is actually happening that things go from glum to rolling in the dark.

The Free Vampires are pulling the mystics from her line. The wild Elvin magic is flowing all over the place and its up to Rachel (naturally) to stop it. With her team of bad-arsed friends at her side all the way. Things get dicey, Elves run a muck with the vamps, Weres are running around the city helping to corral the evil doings while Rachel, Trent, Ivy and Jenks hit the bad elves head on. Its a race against time and Rachel's sanity to get the mystics free and back into her line.... or risk going crazy.

Crazy is no fun when the fate of all she loves is put to the test... people will be lost, lives changed and in the end... love will make it all the way it should be.

keep with it, it's worth it

best book yet. it's a change of pace really, in a lot of different ways. I get Kim Harrison's notion of causing Rachel to be in over her head but in all the other books it was always her getting forced into doing things or everybody would turn on her, she couldn't trust anybody and after a while that just gets tiresome. this story was definitely a breath of fresh air. she is still in over her head but it's because she's powerful not because somebody is threatening to blame her/frame her/ or kill someone. For me they didn't start getting really good until the 7th or 8th book. I never really felt like it was a story that I couldn't put down until the 7th or 8th book. With the first book I felt as though she talked a lot without really saying much. she was trying to create a whole new world, which was extremely interesting and a great concept but I don't think that it was executed very well and you could tell that there was a second book already planned. eventually the information vomit evened out and the books got better. I don't know what all shifted exactly but something did. now I can't wait to finish them and I'm even thinking about reading them again.

A little disappointing.

If you could sum up The Undead Pool in three words, what would they be?

Good, not great

Would you be willing to try another book from Kim Harrison? Why or why not?

Always, she is a very talented writer

What does Marguerite Gavin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Accurate voices, easy to keep up with ready and very fluid work

Any additional comments?

This was a bit of a let down. So much was left unfinished in the end and so many relationships were lost, broken or changed for the worst.
The issue with the vampires immortality never really got touched
The issues with repairing the ever after never got looked at.
What happened after the ever after leak was fixed? Did it recover to its old size? Is it still shrunken? Why would the demons be okay with that if it is still smaller?
What about the demon babies? What happens with them now? Doesn't Rachel care about them now?
Why is she so bloody obsessed with Trent now? She used to be a kick-ass witch and ever since she got rescued from the HAPA group caught them she has gone boring.

A lot of things were left unanswered which were things I wanted to know about. So I was very disappointed in the finale of this series.

Uncommon Stupidity

Any additional comments?

As with several of the other books it's all Rachel's friends that save the day. I was literally wishing Rachel would just die so Harrison could continue the series with the not beyond idiotic "fool me 52 times" characters Ivy, Jenks, and basically everyone else.I have no problem with the main characters being outwitted or out maneuvered but epic idiocy is inexcusable. She's a daemon now, she should be tried and convicted of "Uncommon Stupidity". I am not sure if Harrison is just that bad a coming up with how to set up the rest of the story or what, but the "trusting" the guy who has out right told her countless times she should be dead because she is a demon... Maybe this time he will be a nice guy and (I cannot even call it a scam it was so obvious) not hurt me had me yelling out loud with no one around, "you have to be kidding me."

All that said, still a really good book, but not because of Rachel. Thank you Ivy, Jenks, Newt, Al and Trenton for making this book worth listening to and bringing me back for the next episode of uncommon stupidity.
