Publisher's summary

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Kim Harrison returns to the supernatural adventures of Rachel Morgan in the penultimate book of the Hollows series.

Witch and day-walking demon Rachel Morgan knows magic - earth, ley line, even the forbidden demon magic - and that knowledge has saved her life more than once. But now something - or someone - is attacking Cincinnati and the Hollows, causing spells to backfire or go horribly wrong while living vampires attack humans and Inderlanders alike.

The pressures build when the city is quarantined to contain the unreliable magic, and Rachel must stop the attacks before the undead vampire masters who keep the rest of the undead under control are lost and it becomes all-out supernatural war.

The only way to do so is through the ancient elven magic, but that carries its own perils - for magic always has a price, and gods do not come lightly when called.

Another hit!

My biggest complaint is that I have to wait so long between novels! It took me three tries to get into the first book in this series, but they just keep getting better. I'm hoping for that "happily ever after" but since the author never does the expected, I'm sure the next book will be a surprise! Can't wait.

Will Rachel and Trent finally get together

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is the twelfth book in the series but you will not get lost while reading it. It has all kinds of interesting answers and changes in the storylines, because there is more then just one story line.

What other book might you compare The Undead Pool to and why?

Fair Game by Patricia Briggs has some parts that are comparable. A strong character thought to be a possible threat to civilians go after the bad guys sometimes with the help of some of law agencies.

What does Marguerite Gavin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Very easily followed story when she is reading. Professional performance, well done.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Trent sent the bitch (Lisabeth) out of house, without the girls, and Trent shows up at Rachel's church.

Any additional comments?

Newt is to be watched closely in this book. Newt is the only living female demon and is crazy.

Best of a great series

Loved it! Kim Harrison's story lines are tight, intense and beautifully written as always, and her character development sensitive and believable. And Marguerite Gavin, my favorite narrator, only seems to get better.

True to form, she delivers again! This was the funniest, sexiest book so far. Will read more like this.

WOW

This book was different than the others. There is lots of character development and you can tell that Harrison is moving toward a finale. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

A bit of freshness to a series that TRULY LOVE.

Rachel might be a little infuriating from time to time, but she is Most Definitely NEVER Boring.

wtf

the characters are disappearing just like watching a failing TV series where all the main characters are being killed off because the actor got fired or something😠

Wow - Kim Harrison does it again!

Another wild installment in Rachel Morgan's adventures - and her adventures just get more unbelievable. I don't want to give away too much of the plot, but once you accept a world where witches and demons travel back and forth from the underworld, and elves are involved with genetic manipulation and ketchup is considered dangerous, then little things like a goddess who loses pieces of herself, or catching a train at fifty miles an hour with the help of gargoyles seem almost logical. The characters are wonderful, even if I do miss bad guy Trent. Biz is coming into his own. And by Tink's pink *****, Jinks the pixie is one of my favorite characters ever!

At Last

Would you listen to The Undead Pool again? Why?

I absolutely will listen to it again, it's that good.

What did you like best about this story?

Trent, choosing to be true to himself instead of his species.

Have you listened to any of Marguerite Gavin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

MG was a great narrator as always.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did cry a little at the end, because I love Al, even if I never really considered him as a romantic partner for Rachel. His heartbreak was very moving.

Any additional comments?

I cant wait for the final installment. After that I will read/listen to the entire series all over again.
