Publisher's summary

"Richard saw the point of a sword blade sticking out from between the man's shoulder blades. He spun back toward Richard after throwing the woman out of the opening, ready to attack. It seemed impossible, but the man looked unaffected by the blade that had impaled him through the chest.

"It was then, in the weak light from the fire pit off to the side, that Richard got his first good look at the killer.

"Three knives were buried up to their brass cross guards in the man's chest. Only the handles were showing. Richard saw, too, the broken end of a sword blade jutting out from the center of the man's chest. The point of that same blade stuck out from the man’s back.

"Richard recognized the knife handles. All three were the style carried by the men of the First File.

"He looked from those blades that should have killed the big man, up to his face. That was when he realized the true horror of the situation, and the reason for the unbearable stench of death."

Sequel to the #1 New York Times best seller The Omen Machine.

Gotta love em.

I'm sorry, but if you hated this book, you need to reread all the others AND the prequels. While I would agree his writing slipped a little at Pillars of Creation, I still think this was really good. Unfortunately, he did hit the deadline quick finish, but it's not the first time he did. Probably not the last. I'm still invested, though. I've been with this overall story for 26 years and intend on finishing all of it, this year. I just wish Terry were still with us to bring us more from this world.

Wonderful! Great new world to add to SOT

What made the experience of listening to The Third Kingdom the most enjoyable?

As with the other SOT books, it has a life lesson. That is what makes the SOT series so different and worthy when compared to other fantasy books.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Third Kingdom?

Can't say because I don't want to give away a monumental moment that will have an impact on you even after the book is finished.

Have you listened to any of Sam Tsoutsouvas’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Sam is great in this narration.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Another world, but no one knew it existed. The adventures continue....

Entertaining, but felt written at a lower level

It's been a while since I've read Terry Goodkind's work, so either I remember it differently, or he has lowered his level of writing. Story is still entertaining, but it felt more written for a younger audience, or just dumbed down somehow. Dialogue felt like it was mailed in. Again, I was still entertained, but I expected it to be written at a higher level.

Love all the Books in the series

What made the experience of listening to The Third Kingdom the most enjoyable?

I love that terry goodkind continued the story of Richard and Kahlan and does not disapoint at all. This series has some of my very favorite books and love that this one is mostly centered on Richard. I also love that Richard has developed into the character he is now in this story and has given up the woods guide persona completely and given way to the Lord Rahl that he has become.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Sam Tsoutsouvas?

A good storyteller. however there are times when improper voice inflections are used for the context and really pull you out of the immersion. I have listened to other readings by Sam Tsoutsouvas and the very same thing occurs once or twice in all of them. This is something easily corrected in the production process but obviously overlooked (continuously). A bummer but ultimately a minor hiccup.

Any additional comments?

If you are jumping into this book without reading the previous titles you are really cutting yourself short. Start back with Wizards First Rule and get ready for an awesome experience.

The Saga is Back!

What did you love best about The Third Kingdom?

The Third Kingdom brings back the saga we love, with our beloved characters that we never want to say bye to. I love how it expands on some of the things we learned in The First Confessor, further entwining history in the current story. I can hardly wait for Book 3 to tie it all together with one of Terry's always satisfying climaxes!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Samantha, because she really rose to the occasion! (Aside from our normal favorite characters.)

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wanted to drag this one out a bit, because I hate that the story of Richard and Kahlan is going to come to an end again. I wanted to spend as much time in their world as I possibly could.

Second half is good

I realize the first part needs to set up the story, but it felt like the story was just droning on and on about the same things. Halfway through its like Richard woke up and started acting like how he used to and the story overall got a little more interesting.

Now we're getting somewhere.

Where does The Third Kingdom rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Not the top of my list, but it was very good - probably number 2. I still wish they would get a different narrator.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I still like Cara the best, but Sammie was very good in this book.

Would you be willing to try another one of Sam Tsoutsouvas’s performances?

I really have no choice if I want to listen to the Sword of Truth books. I will probably never buy a book narrated by Sam - unless he gets better at voice inflection - but because I love the Sword of Truth books - I will keep trying to listen to him, and enjoy the book for what Terry Goodkind was writing.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I do not think it was an extreme reaction, but because I read the book - and I got angry while reading the book - I got angry all over again. I really do hate Abbot Drier. I know the character - Bishop Arc - is supposed to be one of the main bad guy characters, and he is a great bad guy character, but the abbot is just so totally obnoxious and demented, that I wanted to jump in the book, for Kahlan and Richard, and do a job on him myself. Maybe just for my own satisfaction.

Any additional comments?

The Story was excellent, and the new characters that were added were wonderful. Even though Sam did a better job narrating on this book, I still wish they had Christina Traister doing the job. To tell you the truth - I don't know if Sam is even getting any better. I may just be getting used to his small variety of voices, and have come to terms with the fact that I can't have it any other way.
