Publisher's summary

"Richard saw the point of a sword blade sticking out from between the man's shoulder blades. He spun back toward Richard after throwing the woman out of the opening, ready to attack. It seemed impossible, but the man looked unaffected by the blade that had impaled him through the chest.

"It was then, in the weak light from the fire pit off to the side, that Richard got his first good look at the killer.

"Three knives were buried up to their brass cross guards in the man's chest. Only the handles were showing. Richard saw, too, the broken end of a sword blade jutting out from the center of the man's chest. The point of that same blade stuck out from the man’s back.

"Richard recognized the knife handles. All three were the style carried by the men of the First File.

"He looked from those blades that should have killed the big man, up to his face. That was when he realized the true horror of the situation, and the reason for the unbearable stench of death."

Sequel to the #1 New York Times best seller The Omen Machine.

Great follow up Books

In the way these books are written, it is a good follow up series to The story of Richard and Kalan. Nicely done.

Goodkind struggling with dialogue again

Tsoutsouvas had another wonderful performance despite it seeming as though Goodkind has forgotten how to use dialogue well in his stories. Up through Confessor it never felt like his characters were repeating themselves, but Omen Machine and Third Kingdom drone on and on with characters repeating the same words in dialogues. Back and forth, back and forth. Like "X". "Did you just say X?" "Yes, I just said X." "Ok, but you really think X?" "Yes. X." "So you really did think X.".... It's really annoying because it happens at several points as though Goodkind didnt know how to progress the story through certain points or he didn't have enough material and was trying to meet a word count requirement.

The best book series ever!

If you could sum up The Third Kingdom in three words, what would they be?

Riveting, moving, inspiring

What other book might you compare The Third Kingdom to and why?

The Third Kingdom fits seamlessly into the entire series of novels from Terry Goodkind. The story continuously flows through to this novel. I highly recommend reading the previous novel of the First Confessor which this new novel weighs highly on. Although the stories flow this novel can stand on its own without too much confusion to the main story line for a new reader. Even if you have not read the other novels you are able to build that strong connection to Richard even without following him through the beginning of this journey. . .however unlike the other novels I feel Kahlan's character is not made out to be as strong and powerful as previously she seems weak rather than the true heroine she really is. The truth is I have never been a big reader. These are the first and only novels that I cannot stop myself from wanting to read over and over again. You are truly transported to another world and the action and adventure never stops. But the thing I truly love most about these novels is that the characters are so powerful. They are not only easy to relate to but inspirational. Terry Goodkind's words and characters are truly magical.

15 Terry Goodkind books and I still want more!!!!

Wow, Richard and Kalen have been put through the test and now after the Omen machine it's still not over. The Third Kingdom is coming "the dead" is coming and they want your soul.Zed,Nicky,Kara and the best men Richard has are put down and missing. Kalen is on her death bed and only Richard can stop Lord Ark.. Richard will call on his death and living side of himself to save the day but without a little girl named Samantha this will not be possible.. Terry hurry up and finish the next book you have me again!!! Must read!!

Amazing book!

Would you listen to The Third Kingdom again? Why?

No, but only because I usually read a book only once. But If I wanted to read one twice, this would be the one.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Third Kingdom?

I would love to say, but it would be a spoiler, and I don't want to ruin it for anyone. Trust me though, there are many, many memorable moments. I just stayed up till 4:30in the morning to finish it. I NEVER do that!

Which scene was your favorite?

Too many to count

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The soulless ones have escaped their prison. The dead have been awakened from beyond the veil. The greatest evil the world has ever known has returned from the dead, and they are all marching inexorably toward the Taharan empire. The only hope is Richard, Who has become the bringer of death. But will even that be enough to triumph against the Spirit king who has been beyond the veil for millennia? It's good versus evil at its finest. And even prophecy can't tell who will win.

Any additional comments?

The best Richard and Kalen book ever! A must read for any fantasy fan. Richard's journey will stand up even to Frodo's fantastic adventure! The Omen Machine pales in comparison! And the cliffhanger ending will leave you screaming for the next book. Terry Goodkind has said it should be along in about a year. A Mord Sith couldn't be so sadistic! Kudos to the author on a fantastic journey into his incredible imaginative world.

Excellent Story...

...and one of the better stories in the "Sword of Truth" series! The Omen machine is barely mentioned in this book, but may have a larger role in a future story. Richard is on a quest to save himself and his friends from the grips of "Death" itself!!! ...and the bad guys, as usual, want Richard's throne and empire for themselves! Very good action and the story moves fairly well. Can't wait to get to the next book!!!

getting better

this book was a lot better. Story was great and made some good progress. There are some cons. First is no surprise to anyone, he repeats himself. Listening to Richard explains things over and over to everyone he encounters got old fast, also getting sick of the same story format Terry has been using. Richard and Khalan separated and Richard lost his gift, color me surprised..... For once would like these two to actually kick ass throughout the book together for once. Terry must get off putting the two main characters through so much torment and agony. Sam did a great job narrating.

The death of this Author is a blow to my readers heart. An amazing journey from Wizards First Rule and I am still captivated 15 years later.
