How do you tempt an archmage who has everything?
From a dark and dusty tomb, Elminster emerges, seeking the guidance of Mystra, and finds only silence. He is drawn into the clutches of the mysterious and sinister Lady of Shadows. The path he takes will lead to a Realms-shaking confrontation where Elminster has to make the most important choice of his long life.
Whatever he decides, the Realms will be forever changed…

The story was scattered. There was a lot of talk of characters that would not survive for 30 mins that had nothing to really do with the story. The story of Eliminster would have been less than 2 hrs. Making of a Mage was much much better.
Couldn't save book
all scenes that had nothing to do with the core story. 80% of the book
I would not recommend anyone read this. I read it hoping it would get better and it never did. Even the parts about Eliminster weren't enough to tie everything together. Talking about groups and groups that die to a mist that do not have any relation to the story just dragged it out and made it very boring.
John Pruden does an excellent job as always. It's really why I went to this series after Erevis Cale.
People say Greenwood's work can get messy. I thought the first two books were great; tightly wound stories that were easy to follow. I get it... this book was suppose to be about how others were effected by Elminster and forces. But, it was just a mess. Characters are all over the place. Not know who is with who and why people are doing what they are doing. Just a real killer. There are huge gaps with no Elminster.
Sadly, it was the very very end of the book. Literally, the last few pages.
C'mon. This would not be the book to make a movie. Period.
I would still recommend the novel but perhaps do so with a little preparation. Be prepared to look-up names online and take your time. Sometimes, I literally write down names and who they are so I can understand.
The story was epic, the narration by John Pruden was perfect it brought the story to life. His voice was perfect like he was meant to Narrate this story.
I would absolutely.
Based upon other books from them I generally enjoy the story.
Good performance on this one.
The story was just everywhere on this book for me. I might be a bit ADD and missed some of the bits linking the fragmented stories in this book or it could be the core story was just diluted by the meaningless noise around it. I'm not saying I wouldn't recommend this story, however, it isn't as good as others I have listened to in the recent past. Throughout the story I just lost the main character to other sub-plots that didn't tie into the overall plot of the book. This book could have been short and sweet without the confusion.
