It's really important to listen to book one in this series so you can know everything that came before this one. I bought the first book by accident, needing something to read while traveling. I enjoyed the story so much I decided to buy the second book on audible. There's action and character self discovery. I like the plot because the main character - Joanna after being brutally raped as a teenager begins to find out the truth about her "real" father and why her mother left as a child. Her stepfather, who is cold and uncaring cares for Joanna's sister, his natural child, more than her and shows it.
The story's backdrop of the dark and glamorous side backdrop of Las Vegas keeps the story's moving.
Now, the narrator is good and I feel that as she keeps doing this series she'll get better. She does a good job however sometimes gets her voices confused, not between male and female but with the main character's two different personas. Not enough to stop the story, but noticeable.
If you like urban fantasy, vampires and such, I believe you'll like this series. Give it a try!
It would have taken a lot of improvement to get this one to a 4-star experience.
The plot was really thin. It relied too much on a lead character making really bad decisions. I think the main character is supposed to be likeable, but she came across as self-centered, immature, and stupid to me. Also, the hidden identity aspect does not play out as plausible.
There were several words that were just out right misprounced during the recording. This makes me crazy.
I don't know that I would cut any scenes from the book. If I were an editor, I would just recommend some re-writes to tidy up the storyline and make it more plausible.
Also, do we really need another love triangle? Sheesh.
