With the pressure on after his success in Gaol, Eli Monpress, professional thief and degenerate, decides it’s time to lie low for a bit. Taking up residence in a tiny seaside village, Eli and his companions seize the chance for some fun and relaxation.
Nico, however, is finding it a bit hard. Plagued by a demon’s voice in her head and feeling powerless, she only sees herself as a burden. Everyone’s holiday comes to an untimely close, though, when Pele arrives to beg Eli’s help for finding her missing father.
But there are larger plans afoot than even Eli can see, and the real danger, and the solution, may lie with one of his own and her forgotten past.
If only Nico could remember whose side she’s on.

“A delightfully giddy romp of a novel.” (Karen Miller, author of The Innocent Mage)
“Witty, smart, snappy, sassy, fast, furious and let’s not forget fun...Rachel Aaron isn’t so much knocking at the door as kicking it down.” (Tom Holt, author of Blonde Bombshell)
The fourth in the series is out but not being offered in audiobook form. I love the characters in this series. Eli sort of takes a backseat in this installment. This book is primarily about Nico and her struggle with the demon seed and herself. You do learn a bit more about Eli's past. This is a great series and I hope that Audible will soon have the 4th and the upcoming 5th book to offer members in the near future.
Wow, what an amazingly entertaining book...and series. I can't believe more people haven't read this yet or commented on it. Wonderful set up of witty characters with obvious hints about a much bigger plot and family "connections" in the future. Fantastic banter between characters, nice depth to the world she has created. What's really interesting is that, because all objects (people, trees, rocks, etc) have "spirits" in her universe, they all have the potential to contibute dialogue. All in all just a great fun read on top of solid characters, engrossing plot, and a well thought out magic system. Can't wait for the next book!
Ok, I can not tell you how much I love Luke Daniel's performances. I think he has taken over the slot of my favorite reader! If you have not listened to the Iron Druid Chronicles start now. That is a fantastically fun series!
Audible - where is the rest of this series? There appear to be three more books available. Please add them ASAP!!!
So far this series is priced less than a full credit. If you haven't tried it - do! It's fun, with a lot of humor, action, and a great plot line. I am going to be really disappointed if I have to read the rest of the series myself!
Any idea on when I can listen to book 4 and 5. They were released in print a year ago.
Love to read and I am really enjoying audible. Fantasy and sci fi are my faves but I also enjoy period novels and historical fiction.
Not much else to say other than the back stories could be more in depth
The narrator for this series is fantastic. Simply brilliant. He totally sucks you in with his performance.
Now if only books 4 and 5 were available through Audible I would be so happy!
The third part of an interesting and breathtaking story, I believe this would be the next Harry Potter, when is the fourth book on audible?
Yes, but warn them the first two books aren't quite as good.
It's a little darker, edgier than the first two. Starting to get some better storylines.
Luke Daniels is one of my favorite narrators. Which is why I started this series. He doesn't do as many distinct voices as in other stories, like the Iron Druid (Highly recommend!). Still, he's a great narrator in this series.
The series started out as feeling mostly like a pre-teen simple fantasy, but it's really starting to develop into a worthwhile series for any age.
The newer books in the series have ridiculous covers. They look like my mother's old Harlequin Romance novel covers! Ha ha.
I will listen to anything Rachel Aaron writes and Luke Daniels reads. Aaron's writing keeps the plot moving quickly, but she never hesitates to make sure her words describe the scenes perfectly. Luke Daniels could read the phone book and I'd still be enraptured. The combination of the two of then makes for a delightful and almost indulgent listen. Bravo and brava!
