Publisher's summary

For the first time, the full origin story of Gin Blanco's transformation into the fearsome assassin known as the Spider - book 10 in the red-hot Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series. In a prequel tale, Gin Blanco goes through her paces on the way to become the most feared assassin in the Ashland. Her mentor, Fletcher Lane, is not going to go easy on her - if she’s going to become a fearsome killer, she has to learn to use her elemental Stone and Ice powers alongside old-fashioned human street smarts.

Oh Fudge, I wasted money on this....

Would you try another book from Jennifer Estep and/or Lauren Fortgang?

As long as it something original, not a trip down memory lane.

Did The Spider inspire you to do anything?

To wait for someone else to be the first to download it, and wait for the reviews... If I had done that, I wouldn't have wasted my time on this book!

Memory Lane

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would say parts of the story, I would have liked to know that the entire story was going to be about something that took place a decade before the first book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Spider?

The introduction to main characters and how Gin met them as well as getting to know Fletcher more

Have you listened to any of Lauren Fortgang’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, she sounds the same as she always does.

Could you see The Spider being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I think it could be made into a TV series.

Any additional comments?

Spoiler- I strongly disliked that it showed Gin seeing her sister at the party and that she didn't recognize her. To me that is extremely fake as you would recognize your own sister or at least her voice.

Out of Place in the Series

Don't get me wrong, overall, I very much enjoy the series. Maybe a little too much to keep up the necessary level of suspended disbelief required for this particular edition. There are just too many coincidences. Too many characters who run into each other but won't remember the details of which later in the series timeline. Something which has happened in the series before but is a rampant theme in this book. Also characters that fail to fully recognize each other now or later on. I wouldn't mind spin offs or some short back stories of the other characters and how they met but this isn't that. Too many loose ends for it not to have caused trouble for Gin and Fletcher. Also there really should have been some reference to events in this in Widow's web. The characters personalites are a bit inconsistant Gin struggles with being patient even though she is always supposed to have been rather patient even as a child. That being why her mother chose the spider rune for her. Fin gives a speech about remaining in the shadows which seems at odds with his personality. Fletcher allows a date to pick up Gin at his house, reaaally? I can't really go into more details without a lot of spoilers but it just doesn't fit together well despite the very obvious attempts.

How bogus

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I just got this book and it is nothing but a repeat of all her other books,I could have sat down and done this.WHY no NEW story? Not worth the money I paid it is so repetitive.

What was most disappointing about Jennifer Estep’s story?

It is just a repeat of all of her other books

Have you listened to any of Lauren Fortgang’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I love the way she reads a book

What character would you cut from The Spider?

I wouldn't delete any of the characters but lets get moving on some of theserelationships

Any additional comments?

Not The Best In This Series!!

This book is mainly about the Spider's past, mainly a past job she did!! In every book in this series you always had those chapters that talked about a past experience. But this one was the whole book, except its beginning and ending.

Ending was good, I have enjoyed its ending. Also, during the book you keep on meeting characters, which the spider didn't know them back then, but they play major part in her future, that was kinda cool.. it reminded me of Lost the TV show.

Lets talk about the bad part, which made me dislike this book.. The Tin Man kept on thinking there is something fishy about this job and it was so obvious from the beginning, I wasn't shocked at all when the spider understood everything and whats going on... That is the main thing that made me dislike this book I like to be surprised.

But you get to know more in her past and how she used to do her job with the Tin Man.

Disappointed😭

As you maybe can tell I have been into this series for a while now. I don't know what happened but the cool, calm and collected tone of the narrator really sucked the life out of the book for me 😵. Not only that, but from the beginning of the book I was yelling at Gin for being an ass and not taking her F-ing blinders off 😠. It was unappealing to the point that I am thinking of dropping the series all together 😔. In the end it was ruff for me to get though.

disappointed

I don't want give any spoilers and I love this series but I really struggled with this story. I get the author was trying to convey Gin was in the begining of her career and still learning but it was so obvious from the introduction of the antagonist who the " bad guy" was and that Gin was so oblivious was really annoying to the point I skipped like 10 chapters because I couldn't take her ignorance and that she didn't see the signs or listen to people more experienced and knowledgeable then she was. I know she's a teenager in this book but gosh it was frustrating to see her constantly being willfully ignorant.
