Publisher's summary

The most controversial work by New York Times best-selling author Piers Anthony.

Killing children is an ugly business, but the alternative is so much uglier. Abner Slate just watched his five-year-old daughter Olive kill his wife and son. Olive is a sopath. Born without souls, sopaths are children who will lie, cheat, rape, and murder to get what they want. There's one in every family these days, destroying America's heartland from within. After murdering his daughter in self-defense, Abner is taken in by a secret network of sopath victims called Pariah. Through Pariah, he meets other sopath victims who band together to form a temporary nuclear family. But the sopath threat is getting worse, and soon their quaint little neighborhood is overrun by murderous, drug-running children. Now, on a mission for Pariah, Abner and his makeshift family must travel across the country to a mysterious town that contains a secret powerful enough to stop the sopath crisis. Instead, they find the most seductive and ruthless sopath of all. Her name is Autopsy, and she would like to add Abner to her slave collection. The old morality is dead. Now the sopaths will stalk the Earth.

So much promise

I tried to like this, the premise was great and I love the author.
however, the dialog is awful, the characters are not well developed except the main sopath in the story and the narrator just didn't do it for me.
Everything felt rushed and nothing felt believable.
overall I am happy I finished it but this could have been so much better.

Different

Not sure what to say. Definitely a different type of read. Has a few things that I found hard to listen to. The young age of the Sopaths made me want to stop a few times. I did finish it though. Quite disturbing.

nope

I really couldn't get into it and didn't care for it at all. I would not recommend it.

not believable

the story line feels so rushed and some parts feel perverted. it's not believable and the characters actions don't make sense.

Dissapointed

The idea for the story line is good , could be really interesting but this was poorly written. Also, it seemed to be a thinly veiled attempt to write about young girls obsessively attempting to seduce grown men. This portion of the book seemed less important to the story but was given a great deal of attention...

Great idea, poor execution

The general story line is good. The language and content needed to be refined more.

New Concept

The horror genre is my favorite. Piers Anthony's The Sopaths was a new idea that I have not read about before. His take on murderous children makes you really think about the nature vs nurture debate. You could feel the pain that these parents and siblings were going through and the solution was not one that I saw coming.

Didn't finish reading it

Gave up halfway through through the book. I could not keep focused on the plot of the book because of the rampant literary pedophilia.
