Publisher's summary

Deep below the University, there is a dark place. Few people know of it: a broken web of ancient passageways and abandoned rooms. A young woman lives there, tucked among the sprawling tunnels of the Underthing, snug in the heart of this forgotten place.

Her name is Auri, and she is full of mysteries.

The Slow Regard of Silent Things is a brief, bittersweet glimpse of Auri’s life, a small adventure all her own. At once joyous and haunting, this story offers a chance to see the world through Auri’s eyes. And it gives the listener a chance to learn things that only Auri knows....

In this book, Patrick Rothfuss brings us into the world of one of The Kingkiller Chronicle’s most enigmatic characters. Full of secrets and mysteries, The Slow Regard of Silent Things is the story of a broken girl trying to live in a broken world.

diffrent then the rest.

I liked this book. it gave a lot of insight into the mind of arie. I would enjoy hearing more of her backstory to know how she ended up the way she is.

alchemy and magic

this book gives great insight into the aspects of alchemy. and insight into ourselves. it's a delightful story, and if you like the universe of the kingkiller Chronicles, I do recommend reading it. Auri is a curious and great character in the series, and I love that she was given this book to explore a little bit more of her. she truly is a moon fae

not a typical story

as the author says, if you have not read the 1st 2 books don't read this one. its not really a story its more like follwing Auri through a week in her life alone and in her home under the university. Auri is a bit insane and that's how the book reads. But if you know she is and want a glimpse of her daily life, its a great book. My disappointment was it didn't really give her background and the background of the under thing were she lives.

Love all the broken things in their place

A great story for anyone who see the world with both eyes open, one foot in and is looking for a place to call home.

Rothfuss is a true wizard at words, at knowing and telling just enough to keep you wanting (and waiting years. ugh)

Different and perfect

The author starts his prologue by saying you shouldn't buy this book. I doesn't fit any of the molds that books are supposed to fit into. Technically, I had already bought the book, so his warning was too late, but also misplaced. I loved how unique this story is. Auri is so enigmatic in the other books. You don't know why she is living in the Underthing, or how she lives. This doesn't really answer that, but it gives you a glimpses into her life. Honestly I would love a full length book about her, even if it doesn't fit the mold. Patrick Rothfuss is such a master writer. I am so drawn to the world he has created, and this book is no different.

How did I fall in love with this?

I stopped listening halfway through to read reviews from the other readers. I expected maybe 1000 ratings, and all below 2 stars. I was shocked to see over thirteen thousand reviews and about 4 1/2 stars. Really shocked! I went back into the book a kept an open mind. The story started to have a texture to it and a love for this young girl that we know through Kvothe. It’s everything the author warns about, but it’s a wonderful story, a beautiful story. The author does a great job of narrating it, and the book seems personal and it needed to be read by him. Bravo.
