Publisher's summary

Filled with magic, heroism, and all-too-human characters, Bujold's Sharing Knife saga is both a gripping adventure and a poignant romance. In this second volume, Fawn Bluefield, the clever farm girl, and Dag Redwing Hickory, the seasoned Lakewalker soldier-sorcerer, are newly married. Their arrival at Dag's home on Hickory Lake Camp is met with prejudice and suspicion, as many in the camp deny the literal bond between Dag and Fawn, woven in blood in the Lakewalker magical way.

Then Dag is called away by an unexpected and vicious malice attack on a neighboring hinterland, threatening Lakewalkers and farmers both. What his patrol discovers there will not only change Dag and his new bride but will call into question the uneasy relationship between their peoples—and may even offer hope of a less divided future.

Don't miss the first volume, Beguilement.

Great installment

Dag and Fawn travel to Hickory Camp so he can check in, and she can check the status of the Sharing Knife.
They have serious issues with his mother and brother; and Dag faces the most evolved Malice he’s ever seen.
They leave Camp when they tire of the prejudice against Farmers, and they decide to travel.
Dunne does a great job of character differentiation and expressing emotion in her narration.

fun

a fun story. The author has set the laws of nature and "magic" in such a way that it is complete yet understandable. each character has its own personality in a way that isn't interchangable. I care about the characters. I'm not into romance scenes, but the few that you come across are tasteful and not drawn out for the sake of literary arousal. I am pleasantly surprised by this series.

Great story great characters

I am loving this series . The performance is excellent. While the Palladin of Souls is my great love this story is a close second. A different universe with interesting characters.

great!

The first one was so good that I couldn't turn it off. The second one was amazing too! I can't wait to start the third. The story is amazing and I'm in love with the characters. It's very well written and I enjoy the sort of folksy way of speaking that they have. And while the narrator is a little on the slower side she reminds me of being read fairy tales by my grandmother and I love it I didn't think I would but I do! I can't say enough great things about this book series!

Wonderful book

I love this series. I like the way the author empowers the main female character, Fawn. I love the combination of romance and fantasy.

Excellent

Among the best audio books I have ever listened to. The characters are exceptionally well developed and the narrator is great. I became a fan of Bujold by listening to these books.

It's good

I was expecting more actual fantasy than a romance novel set in a fantasy setting, but it wasn't bad as far as that goes.
