Publisher's summary

Gujaareh, the city of dreams, suffers under the imperial rule of the Kisuati Protectorate. A city where the only law was peace now knows violence and oppression. And nightmares. A mysterious and deadly plague haunts the citizens of Gujaareh, dooming the infected to die screaming in their sleep. Trapped between dark dreams and cruel overlords, the people yearn to rise up - but Gujaareh has known peace for too long.

Someone must show them the way.

Hope lies with two outcasts: the first woman ever allowed to join the dream goddess' priesthood and an exiled prince who longs to reclaim his birthright. Together, they must resist the Kisuati occupation and uncover the source of the killing dreams...before Gujaareh is lost forever.

Good speed, smart, fun

I liked the first book in this trilogy, but it took me a long time to get into it. I was happy to find out that the investment in the first paid off with no repetition of the world building in the second! You really have to read these in order, but the slow start of the first will be worth it.

Unbelievably Good

I was worried there wouldn't be as much depth because of where things were left but Jemisin smashed that to pieces and left me emotional several times. Another fantastic book by a great author. Zimmerman does an amazing job with her reading of the book.

deeply woven story

Once again, another great NK Jemisin book series. For me taking copious notes on all the characters and their names was helpful.

Another great read!

I love Jemisin’s writing and this in another great story. I love how she wove another captivating story built on the previous book, but it was also very different with new characters to care about. Love the strong female voices in her books.

Another excellent novel from N.K. Jemisin

I only wish there were more books by Ms Jemisin and they could all be performed by Sarah Zimmerman.

My favorite Jemisin series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

There are tribes and magician groups and scheming nobles. There is a wonderful romance.
The tribes are nomadic Arabs, the scheming nobles are from Venice, the magicians and king are Egyptian. That gives you some idea.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Shadowed Sun?

At the beginning there was a incident in the world between magical dreaming and reality. It's haunting.

What about Sarah Zimmerman’s performance did you like?

She does all characters well, women, men, children, in all worlds.

Another brilliant masterpiece

I always go through withdrawals when I listen to her books. I become immersed in the universes and this book duology is no exception. It’s a beautiful story of exploration, healing, and love.

A Balanced World

I will state as I've always stated with NK Jemisin's books, I do not know her stories and this is what I love about her. I'm sure she could push out the fluff with no trouble at all but she doesn't. She makes her characters real, where you can love or hate them. Even though she does fantasy, it could be a life that can be seen as real. In this book, my favorite parts is how in regions, women are viewed as Goddess. Not, the New Age Goddess but the time before there came a one Male God, which unbalanced the world. Where women became unworthy and feared. This author, I would hunt down as my first to have a signed book. Good Luck and Many Blessings NK.
