Publisher's summary

In 1948, an alien starship crash-landed in the New Mexico desert and brought with it the key to mankind’s future. Code-named the Rho Project, the landing was shrouded in secrecy, and only the highest-ranking US government and military personnel knew it existed. Until now.

The US president is preparing to unveil one of the nation’s greatest secrets when three students stumble across the wreckage of a second ship outside of Los Alamos. With a single touch, the alien technology the government has spent untold resources trying to unlock is uploaded into the minds of three teenagers — teenagers who now know the frightening truth about the Rho Project. The battle for humanity has begun.

left me wanting more

kept me interested throughout. character motivations were too vague though especially the villians. they obviously intensely evil but I couldn't understand why.. perhaps in later books the author will explain.

Entertaining and Engaging

Entertaining and engaging. It reminds me of a Daniel Suarez novel in its pace, but without the sense that this could really happen and less thought provoking.

Awesome

Great! Perfect mixture of suspense and lighthearted story! I really enjoyed the story. The scary parts reminded me of Dean Koontz.

Enjoyable

This audio was a very good listen. A lot of technical stuff, but not to much. I like tech stuff. Some profanity (more then I personally like), but not too much. The brutality of some of the killing could have been left out.

Good engrossing story

I enjoyed listening to this story it had me hooked from the first chapter. There were a lot of characters at one point and it was a little confusing but the story lines came together nicely. Will be purchasing the next book.

listening for second time

I really think that the combined story of all 3 books in this series could easily be a movie if they did the in from the 1st 3 books in the previous series just adding it as they went through the story

A great start to a series I'll read entirely.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the modern ideas and present day feel of this book.

It held a good pace and wasn't to much of a "Hard" sci-fi, but at the same time it still managed to include multiple space ships and robots! A very tight line to hold, and pulled off masterfully!

I also loved how it's a constant crescendo that goes right into the next book that I can't wait to start listening to!

Great compelling read!!

I enjoyed this book alot. There were some elements that thankfully weren't graphic or I would have not recommended this book. the author does a great job of setting the stage and weaving a Web of conspiracy that is plausible and exciting at the same time.

Excellent

Would you consider the audio edition of The Second Ship to be better than the print version?

It was the perfect pairing with the book. I switched to audio when I needed to use my hands or when I took walks. The transition was seamless. The narrator was excellent.

What does MacLeod Andrews bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He breathes life and nuances into the narration that reading sometimes doesn't give.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I don't know, but I'd definitely go see the movie.
