Publisher's summary

He's back! The long-awaited return of the most exciting new commercial fantasy writer of the 21st century. After their adventures on the high seas, Locke and Jean are brought back to earth with a thump. Jean is mourning the loss of his lover and Locke must live with the fallout of crossing the all-powerful magical assassins, the Bonds Magi. It is a fallout that will pit both men against Locke's own long lost love.

Sabetha is Locke's childhood sweetheart, the love of Locke's life and now it is time for them to meet again. Employed on different sides of a vicious dispute between factions of the Bonds, Sabetha has just one goal - to destroy Locke for ever. The Gentleman Bastard sequence has become a literary sensation in fantasy circles and now, with the third book, Scott Lynch is set to seal that success.

More of the same... which is not a bad thing

Lynch continues to keep up the good work.
It is hard to top "Locke Lamora", however, so it's not surprising this books is not as strong as the first one... or even two.

The main thing which, for me, is going against it is this: the whole "skewing the voting" thing is set off against background of "what is the actual honest voting". I mean, they do this and that to spoil it for the other side, but why do the actually bother?

...anyway, it's nice that nobody dies.

Weak ending to a great trilogy.

Everything in the first two books was great, and kept you on the edge of your seat, but the final book was full of silly twists and a very weak ending.
Great narrator.

Amazing! Lynch is at the height of his powers here. Enjoyed every second. A pure joy. How will I read/listen to anything else now?

A thrilling end to the trilogy

The future and the past of Locke Lamora is revealed as a rigging of an election is juxtaposed against the Gentleman Bastards final test from Chains their master.

The perfect end to their adventures as we find out who Locke is and where he came from. Masterful voices from Michael Page. Highly recommended

I really liked this book. I love the story and the plot and the plottwists. Michael Page was great!! Loved his voices, it was really easy to distingwish between the different characters. If you liked the first two books, then you will like this too. I cant wait for the fourth book. Thanks a lot fir this great story, Scott Lynch

Stand aside, and try not to catch fire

In my opinion, this book was the best in the series (so far). Just like the first two books, we are following Locke & Jean tackling a series of problems. Again, they are in a new city, so prepare yourself for long world-building dialogues. Luckily, Scott Lynch is very good at providing realistic and interesting dialogues.

Several reasons made me like this book so much more than the first two. First of all, the flashbacks are not only flashbacks to aid the main plot but also reveal another interesting storyline. The second reason is Sabetha. It was great to finally have her in the storyline to outsmart Locke. Finally, the pacing was much better compared to the first two books.

I have no complaints about Michael Page's narration. He was excellent as usual. My biggest complaint is that the sections within the chapters are not marked, so you end up having hour-long chapters but are not able to see when the section will end.

I dont know

to be honest.its a good book and all. but the charm from the first book is all gone. now it feels like the author is just trying to make a game of thrones copy or something like that. went from a really good book. the first one.. to this. were.. I don't know where I stand on this
