Publisher's summary

In The Plains of Passage, orphaned Ayla and wandering Jondalar search for a place on Earth they can call home

Ayla and Jondalar set out on horseback across the windswept grasslands of Ice Age Europe. To the hunter gatherers of their world - who have never seen tame animals - Ayla and Jondalar appear enigmatic and frightening.

The mystery surrounding the woman, who speaks with a strange accent and talks to animals with their own sounds, is heightened by her control of a large, menacing wolf. The tall, yellow-haired man who rides by her side is also held in awe, not only for the magnificent stallion he commands, but for his skill as an artificer of stone tools, and for the new weapon he devises that makes hunting less perilous.

In the course of their cross-continental odyssey, Ayla and Jondalar encounter both savage enemies and brave friends. Together they learn that the vast and unkown world can be difficult and dangerous, but breathtakingly beautiful and enlightening as well.

"Pure entertainment at its sublime, wholly exhilarating, best." ( Los Angeles Times)
"Thrilling....This magical book is rich in details of all kinds....but it it the depth of the characters' emotional lives....that gives the novel such a stranglehold." ( Cosmopolitan)

Loved it

Many turned off to this series because of a movie they brought out on the Clan of the Cave Bears years ago. That movie was so horrible, but the books are phenomenal. GREAT, GREAT series with a picture of Neolithic times, love in the time of mammoths and tigers....no dinosaurs, thank goodness. But it brings about the possible domestication of animals. Wolves, and horses particularly. The sexual content is a little explicit so if you are sensitive, don't read it. It was similar to Outlander in sexual content, if this helps. Very long books and the audio books are great as well.

A great series from beginning #1 to end #6

Whether you read the hard copy, digital or audible you will be captivated by the life of Ayla. Ms. Auel gives such detailed descriptions of life from tools, food, clothing to rituals, lodging & the land so you never lack for colorful visuals.

Enjoying the series

I am enjoying the Audio series, it keeps me interested in their travels. Although good read, the sex scenes are very much exaggerated. No one has sex that much. LOL

Addicting

Started the series with Clan of the Cave Bear. I have to say this is a very entertaining series. I only had a few times it dragged a little. Overall it was exciting and enjoyable. Looking forward to the next book in the series. Hard to stop listening. Find myself making excuses to listen all of the time.

Transporting Series

How does one dream up such story, such details? I know this to be an old series on my grandmother's shelf and now I am a grandmother; I wish I could talk to her now about her thoughts of it all. Narration is excellent, I am thankful I was able to absorb such a long story without having to hold a book. #Heroine #Transporting #Provocative #ExcellentNarrator #Prehistoric #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Fav

This was probably my favorite of the series both for the writing/research but also for the narration of Sandra Burr. I think Ms. Burr finally hit her Cave-womyn height with this one. I more often pulled away from the Kindle version and let Sandra tell me the story. In the Audible version, the characterizations were seamless. When it was a man talking, I pictured the man. I often forgot a womyn was narrating. She kept each of the female voices different enough and consistent enough that I wouldn't have needed to look to see who was talking. Amazing!

Another reason I enjoyed the Audible more than the Kindle (written) form was there were so many passages (no pun intended) of descriptions. I'm sure a lot of the research the Jean M. Auel did was represented here. But if you follow Discovery or other science channels, you would have already covered much of it. Ms. Burr kept those flowing and interesting. And her ability to pull the very essence of a sexual scene without making it raunchy was amazing (and sexy!)

I am writing this after starting the next book. I couldn't leave Ayla out there in the ether!
