Publisher's Summary

A thief's good deeds are never done.

Loch and her crew are determined to stop the ancients from returning to reclaim the world they once ruled, but the kidnapping of a friend throws their plans awry. When a desperate rescue turns into a shocking reunion, the ancients return and seize power. Determined to stop them, Loch and the group look for a way to close the gate to the ancients' world, but this time, they find themselves up against an enemy that has insinuated itself into the highest ranks of the Republic. Cruel, cunning, and connected, the ancients target the crew's families and histories, threatening to tear friendships apart.

If that weren't bad enough, Loch must deal with her treacherous assassin sister, her turncoat ancient friend, and a daemon who has sworn to hunt her to the ends of the earth. In order to save the Republic and pull off her largest con ever, Loch will need her friends...and maybe her enemies too.

"A fantasy heist novel done right!"

Book Three in the Rogues of the Republic series. Reading the first two is a must.

The characters are complex, the narrator is brilliant, and the story itself keeps you guessing and engaged. This book is so much fun with laugh out loud moments and poignant passages that may bring a tear to your eye.

    I recommend wholeheartedly!

"Excellent Fantasy in its own category"

First off, if you haven't read the previous two books, start there. This one is a proper sequel and as such won't make much sense unless you've read the other books in the trilogy.

This is a hard book to listen to because there is so much going on. I found myself constantly rewinding because I had missed something small. The story is very well done, and ties up loose ends nicely. Weekes keeps the spirit of the series while giving a satisfying conclusion that leaves you on tenterhooks throughout.

    "Passable story, mediocre performance"

the story was engaging, but the performance was lacking overall. The narrator was too uniform in annunciation.

    "Sad to hear it end."

You know the feeling when a great book ends and you're really annoyed at the loss?

That happens times three at the end of this set.
If you like, high fantasy mingled with not-so-subtle political/social commentary, this series is absolutely delightful.

    "Loved it!"

I just want to say that I hate a fantasy novel that takes itself too seriously and I hate con-men/women stories where it turns out that every single little thing was part of the heroes' grand plan. This series manages to avoid both those pet peeves without losing the drama or becoming a train wreck. The humorous banter doesn't detract from the tension of the moments and doesn't steal the show. And the con-games the heroes play rely on luck just as much as clever planning and things don't ALWAYS work out
Also, while its not too hard to find novels with strong females it is hard to find them where they are both "strong females" and realistically human but this one nailed it.

    "Can't listen"
Would you try another book from Patrick Weekes and/or Justine Eyre?

Listened to <2 minutes. Cannot deal with reader's voice, but can't return it, either.
