Publisher's summary

An accident leads to the discovery of a mysterious machine that has rested hidden deep underground for countless millennia. The machine awakens to begin issuing a series of increasingly alarming, if minor, omens. The omens turn out to be astonishingly accurate, and ever more ominous. As Zedd tries to figure out how to destroy the sinister device, the machine issues a cataclysmic omen involving Richard and Kahlan, foretelling an impending event beyond anyone’s ability to stop. As catastrophe approaches, the machine then reveals that it is within its power to withdraw the omen... In exchange for an impossible demand.

Excellent story

The series has been an excellent blend of love, magic and mystery. I would have enjoyed it a bit more if there were a little more drama.

Where is the rest of the story

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Good story until the end. Too short, it almost seemed like several chapters were missing from the end. I have been a huge fan of Goodkind since I read wizards first rule about 15 years ago. You could always count on a good long story with several plot lines. This one as well as his last book law of nines have been a lot shorter and less going on. I would only recommend this to someone who has read all the books and is a big fan of Goodkind. If you haven't read any of his books read (or listen to) wizards first rule. It's a great book and Goodkind at his best.

If you’ve listened to books by Terry Goodkind before, how does this one compare?

Not as good as his others, about half the length and just doesn't have the usual quality of his other works. Almost seemed thrown together, not a bad story just not up to par with what I am used to from him.

What aspect of Sam Tsoutsouvas’s performance would you have changed?

I've heard better but I've heard much worse, several people have narrated the other books and Sam is by far the best. A lot of the voices sound similar but he does a good job of showing the emotion the people are feeling. He has a powerful voice and it's pleasant to listen to. He is no Jim Dale, he is absolutly amazing, but he's better than most.

Was The Omen Machine worth the listening time?

Yes, it's commute time anyway

Narrator seems to have lost his voices

In the other sword of truth books this narrator has different voices for the different characters, but he seems to have forgotten them here.

Weakest story yet

I have been in love with the world Terry Goodkind has created but found this story to be the weakest of the series this far. It was a good story, but compared with the rest of the series, this left much to be desired.

I loved it.

Would you listen to The Omen Machine again? Why?

Yes I would, wrote in a nice follow up of the Sword of truth.

Any additional comments?

Loved the witch and how she played in to the story leading you to the true problem.

so much talking...

first off, I really enjoyed all the previous books. some of them are among my all time favorites. but this book just felt so off balance almost all talking and discussion and very little action. the storyline didn't progress much for a whole book. felt like this was supposed to be part 1 of a 2 part book.

Does not belong at the end of the series!

This book is supposed to be right after the end of the sword of truth series, yet the story is written as if assuming the reader has never read the previous books. This is extremely frustrating especially if you've read the previous books as you'll often find yourself trying to mentally tell the character "you know this!, remember we've been here before, yet the story is written as if this is new information. Richard Rahl is supposed to be very perceptive, and yet acts like he's discovering the uses of subtractive magic all over again. Overall very disappointing book, and not recommended.

It’s getting a little predictable

After reading all of the books up to this point, the pattern of the story is becoming somewhat predictable and annoying. It’s still entertaining but let’s be a little more imaginative.

Another smash hit in my opinion

I love all of these novels. out of the entire series and its spin offs the only one i would have liked slightly different would be pillars of creation. That is only because the book brely had richard and khalan in it. Another great novel, thank you Mr. Goodkind.
