Publisher's summary

An accident leads to the discovery of a mysterious machine that has rested hidden deep underground for countless millennia. The machine awakens to begin issuing a series of increasingly alarming, if minor, omens. The omens turn out to be astonishingly accurate, and ever more ominous. As Zedd tries to figure out how to destroy the sinister device, the machine issues a cataclysmic omen involving Richard and Kahlan, foretelling an impending event beyond anyone’s ability to stop. As catastrophe approaches, the machine then reveals that it is within its power to withdraw the omen... In exchange for an impossible demand.

A fitting extension to the original series

I tried to read this when it first came out bit I could never make myself sit down and read it. When I found it on audible, I decided it was time to give it a fair shake. It was definitely worth it. The story was typical Goodkind, taking you through the thought processes of the characters, mainly Richard.

Long Story short, well worth the listen.

Excellent story

I’ve fallen in love with this series. I’ve read them several times and now I chose
To have audible read them to me. I just wish they were longer. Off to the next Goodkind read

Different

This novel was not at all what I expected. Terry Goodkind's writing style has really matured with this novel, and it is extremely evident. The story line starts in an entirely different direction than where I thought it would and travels a path I didn't expect. While it is clearly a fresh start on a new series I am extremely hopeful as to where it will go from here.

Seemed a bit short.

The story was good, although it lacked the depth of the previous books.

It felt more like a short story that has been fleshed out into a novel.

I wish Nick Sullivan narrated these books still

I love this series but I wish Nick Sullivan still narated them. I loved the voices he did for the characters.

The negative reviews were wrong.

I waited over a year to get this because of the negative reviews. So glad I finally did. What a wonderful continuation of the story.

Going in circles

I should have stopped after the chain fire trilogy. This was written like The First Confessor. Characters jumping to wrong conclusions, rinsing and repeating the same dilogue,, going in circles. Frustrating. You the reader will come to conclusions and figure stuff out way before these characters who are supposed to be intelligent capable leaders. Expect to listen to the same information being repeated in a variety of ways, consecutively... 😂 Ugh it's not as bad as how often the writing does this in The First Confessor I'll admit but it gets close.
