Publisher's summary

An accident leads to the discovery of a mysterious machine that has rested hidden deep underground for countless millennia. The machine awakens to begin issuing a series of increasingly alarming, if minor, omens. The omens turn out to be astonishingly accurate, and ever more ominous. As Zedd tries to figure out how to destroy the sinister device, the machine issues a cataclysmic omen involving Richard and Kahlan, foretelling an impending event beyond anyone’s ability to stop. As catastrophe approaches, the machine then reveals that it is within its power to withdraw the omen... In exchange for an impossible demand.

slow paced

it was an ok book for the series, pretty dragged out and anti climatic. not on par with the rest of the series so far

Great Narrator

This narrator is amazing and enthusiastic once the action scenes start to happen. Never listened to someone that got me as excited about the book as this guy.

expected better

Really expected better from Goodkind. The narrator is decent, but the story is frustratingly repetitive. It is slow, VERY repetitive and frankly boring.

Hardcore fans might be willing to suffer though, but I would recommend moving on. The popularity on Audible is riding off his previous work.

Hmmm....

Do not get your hopes up too high on this one...
Being that I read / listened all the books in the series and have come to realize there are some books that are "fillers" until a good story line is written. Well this is such a book. A Filler.

It's not bad, it's worth a credit but not to buy "unless" you are a true Terry Goodkind fan and wish to add this to your collection. I myself fall into this category.

If you are not a fan, start with the first book in the series. You will not be disappointed. If you start with this book, it may leave you scratching your head and asking what's all the fuss about.

For those "TG" fans, this is a good book to listen to while on a plane, bus or ready to go to bed. It's starts off slow, picks up a tad, slows back down, picks up near the end and will leave you wondering... Is that it?

Another good book from Terry Goodkind.

I enjoyed this book. Starts a little slow and ends a little quickly but great writing in my opinion.

I think Terry gets more excited about ideas than story

I don't remember the long winded explanations being this bad in the previous books. Now Terry spends entire chapters with the characters discussing easy to understand ideas over and over and then they repeat those ideas to other characters! It's as if he doesn't expect his readers to have any idea what's going on at any time.

I want the story to progress, have something happen! You can unfold an event and expect the listener to extrapolate what happened by the consequences. Maybe explain it a single time if it was complicated.

Old experienced wizards like Zed and Nathan contribute absolutely nothing in this entire book, even though they are there the entire time and should have some life experience that helps Richard and Khalan out.

Very frustrating to listen to. I could fast forward ahead by 3-5 min and they would still be talking about the same thing I figured out 3 chapters ago.

Anyway, now I'm starting to make the same mistake myself. You get the idea.

Not the best

Personally wasn't a huge fan of this book. After the last book I was expecting more.
