Publisher's summary

It’s been two years since the vampiric virus was unleashed in The Strain and the entire world now lies on the brink of annihilation. There has been a mass extermination of humans orchestrated by the Master - an ancient vampire possessed of unparalleled powers. The future of humankind lies in the hands of a ragtag band of freedom fighters - Dr. Eph Goodweather, Dr. Nora Martinez, Vasiliy Fet, and Mr. Quinlan, the half-breed offspring of the Master who is bent on revenge. It’s their job to overturn this devastating new world order. But good and evil are malleable terms now, and the Master is most skilled at preying on the weaknesses of humans.

Now, at this critical hour, there is evidence of a traitor in their midst... And only one man holds the answer to the Master’s demise, but is he one who can be trusted with the fate of the world? And who among them will pay the ultimate sacrifice - so that others may be saved?

And now it is gone

Would you recommend The Night Eternal to your friends? Why or why not?

Just because it is the conclusion of the trilogy.
The big problem is, that the trilogy started off with a brilliant an new take on vampires. A viral (or actually parasitic disease) that infects and turns people. Cool.
But now it turned into the "it all was some archangel, and god was angry" old story.

In one statement: "The trilogy ended as boring as it startet brilliantly."

Better than expected

I thought this a compelling story with thoughtful developed characters. I saw the TV show first and still like the book.

Fantastic ending to the trilogy! (spoilers ahead)

Wow, what a great ending to these three books, I'm going to have to go back and watch the show again too just to see the strain visually. All the books were fantastically descriptive with scenes, the gore was gritty and well described. I'd say my only gripe was that my boy Eph was treated like garbage the whole time for having issues and making some dumb choices and he still saved everybody! Zach was also a much better character here than he was in the show, probably because it gave us perspective from the master and how he was manipulating him whereas the show just showed a dumb emotional teen being an a**hole. Finally, the ending in the book had such a better fight scene than the show and by god was it great, lost some characters and it was sad but man it was good...cheers!

Good ending to a good series

The second one was disappointing, but this one brought the series back to the level of the first book. Gory, yes. Unbelievable, yes -- but, come on, we're talking vampires and vampire hunters. What did you expect? I hope the authors collaborate on another series.

Nice end to the story

If you have been following the series from the beginning then you should know what to expect here. If you haven't read the other two books in the series start there.

In regards to the story here, I would say it ends the way it needed to and the way you would have expected. If you have enjoyed the other two books you will like this one.

The performance is like the story as strong as it has been all along.

Overall very enjoyable vampire story done with the speed and flow of a movie.

Incredible Series!!!!

Would you listen to The Night Eternal again? Why?

Yes and I have! The whole series (3) is amazing, unique and totally consuming.
There are so many twists and turns and unexpected surprises. I was hooked from the beginning.

What other book might you compare The Night Eternal to and why?

Only the other two books in the series compare!

What does Daniel Oreskes bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator brings in the emotion and helps you connect more fully with the characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes!

Any additional comments?

I highly recommend this series, it is one of my favorites!

Fun Excapism

Fun story with nice readers. I keep saying to myself that I am sick and tired of vampire stories then I get stuck on another. This one is better than most "end of days because of vampire" stories but still a bit predictable. However the reader is good, the writing has good pacing, and it's nice if you want something light.

Only worth it to find out how it ends

Generally speaking it was not as entertaining as the first two books as the pace of this one overall was much slower. Daniel did a mostly ok reading but at times his character voices blended too closely and I found myself trying to decipher the character he was narrating.
