Publisher's summary

It’s been two years since the vampiric virus was unleashed in The Strain and the entire world now lies on the brink of annihilation. There has been a mass extermination of humans orchestrated by the Master - an ancient vampire possessed of unparalleled powers. The future of humankind lies in the hands of a ragtag band of freedom fighters - Dr. Eph Goodweather, Dr. Nora Martinez, Vasiliy Fet, and Mr. Quinlan, the half-breed offspring of the Master who is bent on revenge. It’s their job to overturn this devastating new world order. But good and evil are malleable terms now, and the Master is most skilled at preying on the weaknesses of humans.

Now, at this critical hour, there is evidence of a traitor in their midst... And only one man holds the answer to the Master’s demise, but is he one who can be trusted with the fate of the world? And who among them will pay the ultimate sacrifice - so that others may be saved?

An unfortunate end to a promising begining ...

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The last quarter of this book should be removed and have an entirely new ending put in its place. When I finished listening to this book, I actually said outloud. That ending was f*%ing stupid.

Was The Night Eternal worth the listening time?

Unfortunately, if you have worked your way through books one and two in this series, book three is required if you want to put and end to the story ... but it was really not at par with the first novel.

Not as good as the first two

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Only if you read the other two books. I lost interest after the 100th vampire battle in this book. Was good up until about half way...then drags on. So tired of hearing about the kids vamp mom, his issues with dad, and so on.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The story was dull and slow compared to the first two books.

Which scene was your favorite?

I honestly can't remember.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

If part of the trilogy, then yes.

Any additional comments?

Books 1 and 2 much more engaging than this book.

Excellent performance and story.

I'm also watching the AMC series and enjoying it also. I can understand why the teleplay had to deviate from the book and look forward to see how THAT concludes For me, this was a thoroughly enjoyable "read."

Amazing!

Truly amazing storytelling! I highly recommend this trilogy. Far exceeds the TV show which I love as well.

Book 3

I wasn't sure about this book at first. Kinda slow at the beginning. Kept reminding us what went on in the other 2 books. I didn't think that was necessary but the Author decided it was. But it kept getting better and better. I'm glad I stuck with it!!!! Very good ending!

Disappointing

After thoroughly enjoying the first two in the trilogy, this book was a let-down. The narrator was fine, but the story just dragged, and I found it boring and repetitive. The original concept of a vampire virus, which was the interesting part, was almost completely lost, as was the interesting mythology. Maybe killing off Setrakian in book 2 was a mistake. I'm glad I finished the series, but was disappointed with this one.

Worst of the three

The story line pretty much falls flat on its face in this one. Lots of self pity and analysis, very little substance. I don't recommend this one.

Great ending for a great series!

I have to say that I loved the pace of the last book of the trilogy! Although we look back to find the story of Mr. Quinlan, the majority of the book is fast paced action leading to a great conclusion.

I wasn't sure I liked where they went with the creation of the Master and the ancients, but as the book moved on, it grew on me, adding to the supernatural lore of the whole subject.

Now I just have to sit on the edge of my seat waiting for the movies to be made!

Nice conclusion to the Trilogy

What made the experience of listening to The Night Eternal the most enjoyable?

Still was very emotionally connected to the characters.

Which character – as performed by Daniel Oreskes – was your favorite?

I thought the narrator did a very good job portraying all the characters, but in this book his portrayl of the master was excellent.

Can't Wait for the HBO Mini Series

OK...I made that up, but the three novels, culminating in this third, were great and cinematic, which is not a shock knowing that Guillermo Del Toro has been behind these, with Chuck Hogan. I really enjoyed these, and hope that soon, very soon, I could seen an approach to this series similar to what is happening for "Game of Thrones." Anyone out there in HBO-Land listening???
