Publisher's summary

A posthumous recipient of the World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement, Marion Zimmer Bradley reinvented - and rejuvenated - the King Arthur mythos with her extraordinary Mists of Avalon series. In this epic work, Bradley follows the arc of the timeless tale from the perspective of its previously marginalized female characters: Celtic priestess Morgaine, Gwenhwyfar, and High Priestess Viviane.

Excellent book with incredible narration!

This is a classic! I have read it in the past and was pleasantly surprised to find the Audible narration is so well done! Davina Porter does an incredible job on this. Brava!

Childhood classic turned intrigue and adult

The story of King Arthur is a time told childhood classic story however in the mist of Avalon they expand upon the deep set religious transformation of all of England during King Arthur's supposed reign. They use the feminine aspect and pov, I believe this very apt in regards to the goddess. Love love love this novel and love love love Davina porter. Thank you audible for the whole collection!!!

Fabulous

Any additional comments?

Davina Porter...just the absolute BEST narrator. This story had me from the beginning. Being a HUGE King Arthur fan I loved this twist. It sort of explained a lot of quirks in the normal telling of the tale, but still remained fairly true to the original. Had me on Google Earth looking at sights mentioned in the book for hours. Good stuff.

Like I remember it

I read this in my childhood, and loved rediscovering it again. Really love the narrator's way of making the story come alive.

Disappear into a parallel universe...

This is a gripping story of love, war, divine mystery, betrayal and pride. It is wonderfully narrated and a joy to listen to. I love how the Mists of Avalon provides another side to the story of King Arthur, Excalibur and The Holy Grail. I believe it shines a light upon how religion and Patriarchy have led us all (or at least many of us) astray and tried to turn the Divine Mother Sophia into something she is not. To me it is extremely relevant to the times we are in right now in human history and, hopefully reminds us all that what we have been led to believe is not the truth at all.

Very well done

For those who enjoy historical fictions, want to know if the story of Excalibur or who wish to know more of Arthurian lore then is a wonderful read. Told from the females point of view through the eyes of Morgaine it tells of the origin of King Arthur’s birth, the gathering of the knight of the round table and their fight against the Saxon’s and many more.
It also is very powerful for ladies due to the main character being a strong woman and learning much of the power of the Goddess. Also it’s very intriguing to read as a male, to get a very strong (however old world it may be) view into how women perceive, react, and comprehend matters for the better.
It’s also fascinating for those who take their part in Druidism/naturalism, what ever ones wishes to call it. Powerfully it depicts the strife of religion and how detrimental or influential it can be in the minds & hands of the ignorant or enlightened.
The narration I enjoyed a great deal, she did a wonderful job of depicting the difference between man & woman, young or old, leader or peasant.
Well done all around.
P.S. Not for the faint of heart or the young, there is a short rape scene described.
