Publisher's summary

A posthumous recipient of the World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement, Marion Zimmer Bradley reinvented - and rejuvenated - the King Arthur mythos with her extraordinary Mists of Avalon series. In this epic work, Bradley follows the arc of the timeless tale from the perspective of its previously marginalized female characters: Celtic priestess Morgaine, Gwenhwyfar, and High Priestess Viviane.

Interesting but somewhat long winded.

I love the narrator, but the book was somewhat slow. I didn't like the way the Christian religion came in and demanded everyone change for it.

Must Read! 😊

Everything about this book is great! I recommend it as a MUST READ😊. My favorite thing about this story is how it contrasts what we now call paganism with Christianity. I found it very educational.

Swept away !

This book is for those readers interested in being swept away from beginning to end by a magical story during the time Christianity was taking hold and the Goddess was fading away in tradition and power throughout the land. It is from a female perspective by women raised or touched by Avalon where priestesses of the Goddess are trained in the mystical arts. King Arthur is a Focus as well as the Merlin. Over the years I have read it twice and listened to it twice and enjoyed it thoroughly each time. Highly recommended.

Still a great book!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Mists of Avalon to be better than the print version?

NO!

This is the third time I have read this book, but it has been about 15yrs since my last time.
It is a large, dense book with lots of characters and each time I re-read/listen to it, I learn something more.

But this time around I find that there large parts taken out. Mostly about Morgaine 's life. I am really disappointed in this! Her life is part of what make this book so great.

What about Davina Porter’s performance did you like?

Her voice is perfect.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

no. way too long

Any additional comments?

Still a great book and a must listen

Amazing

What a value- 4 books in one. The performance was captivating. The story endless. There was love and treachery and war and religion and femininity. It was exciting and really took me away... to Camelot. Fabulous set of book!!

Long. It worth it

This is one amazing story. It has become one of my favorite books ever. The narrator is perfect for the story. It is long, but broken into 4 books so you can take a break along the way if you need to. Or if you can stop listening.
