Publisher's summary

A posthumous recipient of the World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement, Marion Zimmer Bradley reinvented - and rejuvenated - the King Arthur mythos with her extraordinary Mists of Avalon series. In this epic work, Bradley follows the arc of the timeless tale from the perspective of its previously marginalized female characters: Celtic priestess Morgaine, Gwenhwyfar, and High Priestess Viviane.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed this, and the narration was very well done. The book is a long one, and really a bargain for one credit when they could have easily charged one credit for each of the four books.

Great book and narration!

This is a very long book. I love long books when they're read by awesome narrators, and this one is!
I've listened to this story twice, at least. I find myself wanting to come back to it every so often. I'm a sucker for a good King Arthur story, so I might be a little biased, but I think it's definitely worth the price!

Amazingly Told

The writer weaves a classic tale into a fresh tapestry that begets the true brilliance of an artisan! The narrator is rich and vibrant, reverent of each character she reads. Fantastic story, wonderfully told. Highly recommended.

Well Done

Where does The Mists of Avalon rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's one of my favorite stories...whether it be the movie, book or audio book, they have all been well done

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I usually spend the week listening to this one,too long to listen to in one sitting

Best in the series!

I found all the other books in this series much less interesting. It can , and in my opinion, be read separately and solely by itself. The narration of the audio book was brilliant and gave every chacractor it's own personality. Thoroughly enjoy this book and the thought provoking plot to a surprising conclusion.

Really impressed with the reader's abilities!

I read the book years ago. It was like going back in time to have it read to me. I highly recommend this book. It is long and it is worth it.This story is before Arthur became High King and what happens during his reign from the point of view of the women; Morgaine, Ygraine, Vivianne, Morgause and Gwenevere (even before she is made queen.)

Superb!

A worth rendering of Marion Zimmer Bradley's masterpiece. A companion throughout life, made real by the great interpretation of Davina Porter.

Very engaging!

This is an old favorite of mine. The narrator does a great job. I have always thought there were parts that were a bit tedious in this book, but it is a captivating story with a feminist edge that gives the Arthur story a great twist.

Fantastic narration and gripping story

Davina Porter is an amazing narrator (I fell in love with the Outlander audios), and she did a beautiful job of bringing these characters to life. I've never been drawn to the Camelot/King Arthur tales, but The Mists of Avalon made me so curious about the legends that I've been scouring the web for all the background information! It's beautifully written and full of action and intrigue. If you love a big, giant historical fiction/fantasy book to really get lost in, this is a great one.
