"This spy yarn is packed with enough humor, action and plot twists to satisfy fans who prefer their adventure shaken, not stirred." (Publishers Weekly)
"Green sustains a good spy thriller's breakneck action with lots of magic, strange creatures, and even some character growth and romance." (Booklist)
I'd really love to know how the major plot twist works in either the modern or Medieval worlds, because it's a damn hard thing to hide.
Well, for the first time since purchasing my Audible membership I really wish I had read the book instead of listening to it. The concepts and world building were interesting and fresh. The characters had a few laughs, I liked the story line well enough, but found it was dragged down by some repetitive moments, extra cheese and thin romance plotting.
And then there was the narrator. Many people will absolutely love the bouncy irreverent cadence, calling it fun and witty. I found it awkward and waaaay overdone. I will never touch this author's work again after experiencing that lilt. Few! Finished.
Admittedly, im a sucker for a good english accent. The story had some shocking scenarios and kept a reasonable pace. The action came frequently and had interesting points in between. Enjoy!
barely 3 chapters in and i cant go on. nothing but a constant stream of just how awrsome and cool the mc is and how awesome and cool his armor is. REALLY wiah i could return books over mobile. this is wretched, the narrator is bland and shifts tone weirdly, not quite matching the situation going on, and badly written. maybe it gets better, but i cant keep in to find out, and seriously doubt it.
Story was good a little clunky compared to most Simon R. Green books I've read. I liked the narrator for male characters but Mr Blinder makes all of the females sound like fussy old ladies. It threw the whole book off for me.
I do love Simon Green & urban fantasy. The story was good. I will get the next book. My only real criticism was in the narration. The narrator sounded a bit older than most of the characters & with older characters he spoke very slowly. Not a deal breaker but not the best choice.
excellent story, good action, decent plot, absolutely horrible narration. His voice for Edwin was grating enough but when Molly arrived I literally couldn't bring myself to listen anymore. It was like nails on a chalkboard. Normally I don't like when a series changes narrators, but I'm actually looking forward to getting to the 3rd and 4th and so on just to be able to listen to them again.
